Pennzoil Platinum

As per my other post, Mobile-One motor oil is quite expensive in Canada ($50CAN for 4.4L).

I just saw that Pennzoil Platinum is on sales here in a local chain store ($27CAN for 5L). I check in the sticky that Pennzoil Platinum European Formula is in the MB approved list.

Is there any difference with Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Platinum European Formula? I saw the picture of the jug and did not see the word "European Famula". Strange, I do not even find the viscosity rating on the lable.

Another question is if one day my engine is low in oil, can I just add some synthetic oil regardless of brand or viscosity? My car has Mobile One 0-w40, can I add some Mobile One 0w30? How about this Pennzoil oil?

If you drive a benz, you can afford the "expensive" oil.. :p

I only use Mobile1 on my engine. Last week i changed my oil.. Bought 8 Liters, Paid just under 2000 NOK (Norwegian Kroners).. (try any currency converter)..

Cant answere difference between Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Platinum European Formula.

If you are gonna mix oil, mix synthetic with synthetic, with same viscosity. So, dont mix 0w40 and 0w30..

Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Platinum European Formula Ultra are not the same product.

Only use the 229.5 product.

This is the approved product.

Thanks for the clarifications.

This is confusing. For my last oil change, I bought Mobile One 0w40 from my delaership and I don't recall the words "Euorpean Formula" on the label.

Mobil 1 is $100 per 5 liters here. The price sucks but you just have to go for it anyway.

In the case of Mobil 1 the 0W-40 is the Euro formulation.

In the case of Pennzoil the nomenclature & packaging is just plain confusing & uninformative.

Although the oil change schedule for my car is 10k miles, I usually change my oil at 8k miles. I think I can use any oil as long as it is 229.5 approved.

For my next oil change, I will try whatever 229.5 product which is on sales. As for viscosity, I will stick with 0w40 or 5w30.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
Yes, you can use any 229.5 spec oil. There are guidelines for viscosity based on climates, but the beauty of 0w40 is that it covers a wide range. 5w30 would be a bit more narrow, but is still good down to -30F and over to +100F (and I pity those living in the extremes of that range!).

I mistyped again with my touch-screen. I meant 0w40.

Just happened to browse through the current Walmart flyer. 4L of Mobile-1 is on sales for $25CAN. Great price but it is written that this only applies to 5w20 and 5w30.
