Rodney:
Please don't beat me but most of the cars see minimal use. They are in a climate controlled garage, covered. The oil is changed annually---Mobil 1 0-40. Coolant and brake fluid every 3-4 years.......brake fluid is checked annually for moisture issues. The cars are at least started and run for an hour twice a year......once a year washed and waxed. Leather treated twice a year.
I GREATLY respect your knowledge..........
You were the GURU with my son's CLK500 transmission issue......actually non-issue would be correct.
Thanks for everything,
Mike

Mike, I strongly encourage you to send at least one or two of your cars down here my way so they can be properly loved by being driven!
Honestly, I know very little about engine fogging, but it sounds like something to look into for the sad life these cars lead, being banished to the garage where they sit unloved and sad, longing for the open road...(again, just more tongue-in-cheek humor).

Vapour Phase inhibited lubricants are not readily available for cars.
My suggestion is that each vehicle be taken for a fully warmed up run at least twice a year. This will reduce the chances of engine & drivetrain corrosion issues & keep elastomers (seals) mobile.

The depth and breath of knowledge on this forum continues to amaze me. Rodney and Glyn recently diagnosed an issue in my son's CLK500.....the local indy was ready to replace the transmission/tc.......it was a faulty EGR valve.
I appreciate Rodney's generous offer to exercise a few of my vehicles
. If you're ever in Pa., I will gladly buy you dinner.
Glyn mentions a VPI is not readily available for cars.......I would think an ester based oil would work fine, maybe as a component in a fogging agent?? ( I have a degree in chemistry......you are an expert in all kinds of arcane areas including fluids for our MB) Glyn: Thank you in advance!!!!
Best regards,
Mike

Indeed ~ Caprylic acid is most commonly used by the industry as a VPI for captive spaces. e.g turbine & gear oils when mothballing etc.
