Smile clk multifunction display problem

Hi all, new to this kinda thing but needs must.

Got in our CLK 350 the other day to discover the multifunction display was basically white, as if it was over illuminated. I could just see that the info was still in the background, but barely there.

I then noticed, with everything switched off, but the keys still in the ignition, slowly the display got more prominent and the numbers etc started to appear to about 25 to 40%ish of what they normally are.

The only thing I know of that has happened is that the battery went flat through little use (due to foul british weather) so I got out the manual, disconnected it exactly as it says in there, fully charged the battery then put it back as per book.

To be honest, my wife had been using it more than me so I'm not sure if this happened since the flattery went bat, if it was there prior to that, or just coincidence.

Question is, does anyone know if there is a reset? Am I doing some dumb cracker thing like "have it on night setting" by accident, or am I just gonna get suckered by Mercedes again to part with another giant cob of my retirement fund?

Appreciate any guidance guys, somehow, I feel a part time job coming on!

It's a 2007 model by the way

Sounds broken. LCDs will do what you're describing in extreme cold weather. If that's not the case then you could just buy the display and have somebody install it for you. The second option would be to buy the whole cluster new and have Mercedes program the mileage for you. Option number 3 is to buy a used cluster for cheap if you don't care about the mileage displayed.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
I know there are a few sources for the pre-facelift W203 LCDs, but I have not found any for the W209. You might just buy a used cluster on eBay and then do a transplant.

Cheers Rodney,

Just found these guys, I think I'll give them a go, will report back later with the outcome.

I've run across quite a few places when I was doing some obscure searches. unfortunately I didn't save them.

And definitely +1...you can get a used cluster for 1-200$ which is probably what they would charge for the display alone at any of those places...like this you have a lot more spare parts for the future.

Just called the guys in the link above, they said if they can repair it it's £99 plus vat tax (£118.80) or if it needs a new LCD it's £139 +tax (£166.80) and it's warranted for two years.
I don't call that such a bad deal really, the stealership would charge that in time and then only give me a twelve month warranty, though I have to remove and send the cluster to them.
