265/35/18 tires in the rear ???

Anybody know if we can stuff 265's on the rear of a 550?
I know id could use the extra traction!

I can't find the specs on the factory wheels, but I think they are 8.5" front and 9.5" in the rear?? I know the 265 needs at least 9.0" wheel.

opinions welcome.

What exactly is your question?

265's on the rear of a 550 will be no problem. There are multiple factors in tire fitment: Size, Width, Offset etc.

Be more specific and most likely you will receive more input.

I don't know how to ask it any simpler in my OP.

I asked what size are the factory CLK 550 wheels AND will 265's (or larger) fit in the rear with no issues (like rubbing).

If the factory rears are 8.5" wide then the largest tire that fits is the stock 255. 265's and 275's need a 9" wheel according to all the manufacturer's tire charts I've looked at.

Thanks.

I looked it up in the owners manual (novel idea!)

7.5" front
8.5" rear

7.5 and 8.5 is factory on my 05 clk55.

The tires that are on it now are 245 up fronts and 275 in the rears. (personally i wouldnt put the 245 up front however the previous owner did and there seems to be no issues)

YES ideally 275 on a 9 however you can run 275 on a 8.5.. I am with NO issues.

If you have stock wheels and no suspension mods, 235 up front and 275 in the rears will give you no issues what so ever.

I run 265/35/18 conti DSW on 2007 clk 550 rear. no issues, but I have repros 18X 9.5 wheels .... read the board as several posts about Goodyear Fusion 265s had some rubbing issues when car bottomed, thus maybe fusions are slightly wider than contis. you can compare the width of your potential tires w/ the conti's and that should give you good answer.

I did too, Conti DW's.

No rubbing but........ now i have this weird issue where the ESP kicks in on the front if I do any hard cornering.

I take the canyons to work daily and it was not doing it before the tire size upgrade, now the yellow triangle blinks like crazy on hard corners. It really bugs me. I figure there is some sort of ESP confusion because the 265's are slightly larger diameter than the stock 255's. Ive asked on this forum and searched the 203 forum - I can't figure out if you can reset the learning curve of the ESP computer.

The off the line traction is much better - but the ESP issue makes me with I stuck with the stock 255's
