CLK55 - Remote Key Issue - Dubai

Help please

I just recently bought a CLK55 (2004) and was given only one key. The key works fine in the transmission but does not lock/unlock the doors or the trunk. when i hold any button down on the remote the red led flashes but nothing happens.

I've searched the forums and so far done the following

1.) Changed the battery on the remote

2.) Tried cycling between global and local mode on the remote

3.) inserted the key in the ignition turned it to point 2 and tried to resync the key as per instructions found on another thread

4.) held it close to the infra red sensor on the door handle and tried to unlock/lock to see if the issue is with the RF transmitter on the remote or the car

All this has been to no avail would appreciate any help that i could receive as i seem to be completely lost here.

i live in Dubai and am also looking out for good workshop recommendations that others might have tried

Many thanks for all your help in advance

Check fuse #8 on the rear SAM (fuse panel in the trunk). If it's blown, that's your problem. If it blows when replaced, you probably have a bad ATA siren (located behind the front right wheel, under the fender shroud).

Rodney, thanks for your reply

I checked the fuse # 8 and it hasnt blown. i reset it and all the other fuses in the panel but no change.

So far they key has worked only once while trying to lock with the key right against the sensor on the passenger side door but hasnt worked since. I have tried the same on the drivers side door but no luck.

I saw your post on one of the other threads and did notice some breaks in the antenna wires that pass in the rear windshield. The wind shield is tinted

I did give it to a workshop here who came back to me saying there was some issue with the computer, etc and tried their hand at it but could not sort the issue out.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

It's probably a bad antenna amp. It's a common failure. Honestly, it's not a cheap nor easy fix. You may want to instead try to fix the door hand IR sensor. Here's a good thread on a DIY repair:

Hmmm if the tint is metallic it could interfere with the signal

Good point. Then I'd go with rudeney's suggestion for the fix regarding the bad antenna amp

Well I decided to go with the Fix Rodney had suggested.

Sensor on both doors seem to work from a distance of 1-2 metres now, which is definitely better than nothing. Atleast i dont have to pull out the key from the remote everytime i wanna get in the car.

Thanks for the assistance Rodney, much appreciated

As an afterthought i noticed u mentioned the smartkey device in one of the threads. Out of curiosity, does this have a built in RF receiver?

So the sensors in the door handles were bad?

Glad that worked for you. I was able to fix the passenger side on the C240, but the driver's side was a no-go.

Did you mean the SmartTop controller? Yes, that relies on the car's RF antenna.

The sensors are connected to a controller via soldering. The solder cracks over a period of time and needs to re-done.
Got this information of the thread Rodney had linked to, a few posts back. Followed the instructions on the thread and sensors were working again.

Navid,

I can't help with your key problems, but I can recommend an excellent mercedes workshop.
It's called Autobenz. The manager is called Anwar, and he can help you. The number is 04 341 4911
