09 clk550 vs infiniti Q60 ipl coupe
So my friend with his Q60 has been calling me out for quite some time and personally I'm sick of it. I believe he is all stock and so am.
Specs:
clk550
Horsepower (Net @ RPM): 382 @ 6000
Torque (Net @ RPM): 391 @ 2800 - 4800
Base Curb Weight (lbs): 3720
Q60 ipl
Torque: 276 ft-lbs. @ 5200 rpm
Horsepower: 348 hp @ 7400 rpm
Curb Weight 3,727

The results, excluding gearing, driver, and condition of the cars, should be in the neighborhood of:
0-60
clk=4.95 (he may be ahead of you to 60 if his 2nd gear holds thru 60 - ur at about 59)
Q60=5.32
1/4 mile
clk=12.4 at 109.7
Q60=12.8 at 106.2 (i doubt that his torque curve is as flat as yours - he probably will be a tick or two less than this estimate thru a quarter.)
After your track date, let me know how close these projections are to your results.

I don't understand how your friend expects to take down a car with 34 more hp and 106 ft lb more torque when the car weights are about the same. He may be trying to pull a "fast one" on you. Maybe he isn't really stock.......

my point exactly -- with that huge difference in torque its a no brainer! torque is what gets you off the line!

Correction: I looked at those numbers wrong. 0-60 is no contest either. The most the clk would lose with a shift before 60 is 500ms (likely 300ms).

i had an a infiniti g37 and I cant see it beatiing your clk. thats the thing bout most infiniti drivers (myself as well) the roar of the exhaust fools you. just avoid turns especially if hes on coils.
but at the track i see you walking him

^thanks guys, i just got in touch with him last night and i told him i would set something up by the end of the summer.
(currently looking for a job and finishing up school so, dont have much time to fool around)
i believe he is fully stock, the IPL comes factory tuned and with a better exhaust so i dont think he would mod any of those. a quick google search did not show much in terms of mods for the Q60.
if money permits i would like to get some new rims. i would prefer 18's for the lighter weight but these stock amg's are heavy. im looking at the O.Z superturismo lm the are 25lbs for the 19"
i should have my exhaust done by the time of the race. i am excited.
im going to do some test runs in a parking lot by my house. it sucks i do not have paddle shifters.

For a drag race, you don't need paddle shifters. All you need is to learn how to regulate the accelerator for the fastest takeoff with minimal wheel spin and ESP intervention. You definitely want "S" mode and you want to tap the TouchShift left to 1st gear. In mine, with good tires, all I have to do is floor it. I get a very brief tire bark, and then I'm off. With worn tires, things are more difficult. If the wheels spin too much, you can slide a bit and then ESP will do the engine cut-off. If this happens, you need to disable that with the dash mounted EPS switch. You'll still have braking control of wheelspin, but no engine cut-off. Now you just have to regulate the accelerator to limit spin.
I have experimented with the "launch mode" brake and accelerator combination to start off with some engine RPM, but in my purely unscientific butt-dyno test, it seems best when I just floor it from idle. It was good enough to embarrass a guy in a C5 Corvette.

Race is off. My friends car got struck by a Cab that ate the stop sign. Thank god he is ok but his car.. that's an other story.
These cabbies do not know how to drive.

Man I reapply hope so. He spent a good amount on that car brand new and he said it looks worse in person. I'll pay him a visit when he is out of the hospital.
I would love to spank him in a race though.

On a lighter note regarding the race, I was with a friend last night that has a G35 coupe and asked him about the IPL. He said it stands for: I paid lots for nothing. Too soon?

2012 C250 Coupe
It wouldn't have even been a contest...
I had one of the very first G37S Coupes (2008). They were pretty good for drag races, but the 5 speed slush box was terrible when trying to race from a roll.
So much so that when I got a C300 4Matic (loads less power and more weight with AWD), I was able to race my brother while I had the G37 for a few more days.
From a roll of around 35/40 the C300 was able to keep up until about 85mph when the G37 started to pull away, before making a 1-2 car gap by around 120.
I'm sure that the 7speed has helped, but the IPL line from what I can remember doesn't really add much, just exhaust and perhaps a few HP. You would have easily walked him.
