Brakepad wear indicator

I have a 2007 CLK550 cab. does anyone know if the brake pad wear indicator is an actual sensor or is it a mileage based indicator?

Thanks!

Sensor that wears thru. Look at the brake pad thickness every once in awhile and change the pads before the sensor wears thru - so that you don't have to replace the sensor.

Brake pad sensors

The brake pad sensors are on both rear & front passenger side brake calipers. I recently replaced all 4 rotors, pads and sensors. Fairly easy replacement.

Just let it break.. $10 for the sensor is better than doing them when the stealership tells you that you only have 20% left and that it should be done

Is there 1 sensor per pad, or 1 sensor per wheel?

I am about to replace front brakes (4 pads), so do I need 2 sensors or 4 sensors?

There are usually two sensors on the vehicle - one on the front left, one on the right rear (or at least, I think those are the usual locations).

is everyone using OE rotors, pads and such or has anyone had a good experience with any after market stuff recently?

I have drilled and slotted Frozen Rotors and Porterfield pads. It's a good combination, but the pads are not quite as good as OEM in terms of stopping performance, but they are virtually dust-free. I'm probably a few months away from needing pads and I'm going back to OEM. I tried Akebono pads and HATED them - noisy and poor (borderline dangerous) stopping.
