CLK500 upgrades.

Greetings my fellow MB enthusiasts. I purchased an 04 500 cabrio about 8 months ago and love it. However I've been toying with the idea of doing an extreme overhaul. I want to put in a 55 amg engine in place of my 5.0, I was wondering if this would be possible and if so what I'd need to do to make it so. Don't get me wrong I love the 5.0 but I'm so tired of getting passed by a civic that can go faster.. I was considering supercharging it but when I looked at the price of a supercharger I saw I could buy a whole damn engine for less.. I would also like to know about the ECU upgrade I can do, I've read on the forums of a few but honestly don't have a clue on what I can get. Some help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

That will not be an easy nor inexpensive task. My advice: sell your CLK500 and buy a CLK550. The CLK550 engines outperforms the CLK55 AMG - more torque and HP, plus the 722.9 7-speed transmission. You won't worry about Civics anymore, you'll not even worry much about Mustang GTs.

Thanks for your advice! So with that being said I'm looking at Upgrading to an SL next, could the same be said about an SL55 vs an SL550? In that case would it be worth it to buy the SL63 vs the 550? Is the cost to performance ratio worth it? Or is the 63 only slightly better and not worth the extra 10-20k?

So It'd be worth the extra money for the 63?

Definitely would not recommend trying to do the M113K into a car that didn't come with it on a budget.

+1 on what everyone is saying, if affordable power is what you want, you should sell the CLK and get another model.

I have a heavily modded CLK500 and I payed a lot of money, but I've had my car for a long time with the mods so I got my money's worth. I wouldn't do my mods if I got a stock CLK500 today.

That's up to you. Its has almost another 140hp. Better brakes and suspension. Of course the cosmetics. Only you can put a value on that. But to me, yes it is

The CLK55, C55, ML55 and SLK55 cars used the 5.5l AMG M113 engine, but it was the naturally aspirated version putting out just over 360hp (almost 35hp less than the xx550 5.5l). The E55, S55, SL55, CL55, CLS55 and G55 added a supercharger and put out over 500hp. The CLK63 used the same naturally-aspirated 6.2l engine as other xx63 AMG models, but de-tunes to just under 500hp, where the other had over 500hp.

None for now
Get a CLK63 AMG cabriolet. That's the best of both worlds; you'll love the M156 6.2L V8.
