2007 CLK550 Cabriolet
CLK550 Convertible Top

Hello All,

I'm new to the forum and to the Benz World. Just bought my first about a year ago - a 2007 CLK550 Cabriolet. I simply love this car!!! I am, however, having a couple of issues that, once fixed, will make it the best ever! My main issue is the convertible top; it won't do anything. When I operate the switch, I get no response. There's not even a click. That being said, I believe the problem to be electrical; maybe in the switch, itself. It's gotten to be where I am inherently distrustful of repair facilities. Tired of paying for deception. I'm not really sure how to troubleshoot this problem, so a little help would be nice. Secondly, the push-button lock on the driver's-side door handle doesn't work. Could that somehow be related to the C-top? Additionally, the Smartkey will not operate the windows or C-top.

Thanks in advance!

Check your power supply, fuses, relays and then connections. Sometimes connections can get corrosion and just enough to stop current flow.

Thanks, BenzBopper, I'll try to locate all of those components. You know, there's a real sense of pride when you complete the work, yourself. Who needs to empty their bank account?!

You should check connection at the pump. It could have been disconnected due to a bad leak somewhere.

Be sure to check that the tray in the trunk that the top folds down into is pulled all the way out and is position. We are fairly new owners of a 2007 CLK550 as well and I think this is something I would check first.

It is unbelievable how much my wife loves this 550. It is a very good value as well when you consider what they are selling for. We have had ours since about February and really like it a lot. Our 550 is Mars Red with a black top. The body design is so classic that we picked up a friend at the airport and she thought we had bought a new MB...LOL.

Best to stop guessing what it might be and purchase a code scanner. There's lots of post here on the different one available.

Easy checks are fluid level and the position of the trunk 'catch' as mentioned above. If fluid is low immediately after refill and use, there may be a leak in one of the lines or in one of the hydraulic cylinders. So, as stated earlier. If there are no easy visual signs, a scan coder should probably be the next step.
