2006 clk55 or 2009 cl550?

2009 CLK550.
To be very honest as someone who owns a 2005 CLK55 coupe I will tell you that there is not so much difference between the 2 cars. Performance, mpg, engine, looks and even the way they drive (55 is more aggressive to drive)
CLK550 gets better mpg and possibly slightly faster. I think it has 15 more bhp. Not enough to notice.
For me when I bought my CLK55 I was in the same boat. I got my 55 only because it was cheaper than the CLK550’s I found. As far as it being AMG that is very cool and I like some of the touches but these cars are just not that much difference to really matter when in the used car market they can be had for close to same assuming the condition and miles are similar. For you I would go for the 09 CLK550. Last year and the most updated of everything. Also, find a coupe with clean records and service history. Get a PPI. FYI CLK550 has the 7 speed vs the old 5 speed in the 55.

GLS450
CLK55 is a lot more money and harder to find, I do like the AMG brakes.
I had CLK550 designo but sold a long time ago been driving other cars from from E350 to GC 640 and now driving GLS 450. Wanted to get CLS450 or keep GLS450 and get clk550 for when I want to drive something sporty.

That Designo is super rare! I have a Designo as well but in tan. I love that color but it is a pain to keep clean. If you are using occasionally it should last for a long time.

The only one I'd say to take over a 08 or 09 CLK550 would be the 05 CLK55 coupe since the 05 55 versus the 03-04 ones comes with the bigger brakes, quad exhaust, updated interior, updated tech, etc. Those usually command a premium compared to previous years as far as 55's go for the CLK.

the only way to get one will be from a beneficiary...
but I agree with the concept of a p3 09 as a better overall choice. options/color/condition of course
to me the biggest single thing not really mentioned is the SOCH vs the DOHC motors.
pull up the torque curves of the different motors and surprise!
if you like to mash the pedal than the DOHC is for you.
if you like to DRIVE than the SOHC can really make your day, every day for me!
be advised that mercedes is not renewing stock on most w209 parts now
