Hey all. My latest problem has been an intermittent no start that only seems to occur after engine is at operating temp or above.
The car will start with no issues initially, then I will drive and park somewhere and the car will refuse to start. It's not a constant crank. It's like a !!!_ !!_ !_ the exclamations being the 'turning over' it gets shorter the more I try to start it but no matter what, after 20-25 minutes of not touching the car or any electronics, the car will start without any problems. No lights on the dash besides an ABS ESP that I have the parts for and no lights after the failed starts.
Read this could be a starter relay, crankshaft position sensor, fuel pump/filter. I don't think it's my battery cause I just got it tested. Just changed the alternator. Someone please help car is in great mechanical condition I do all the repairs and maintenance myself. Thank you! Will try to get a video next time this happens!

and one more thing, I have a scanner and no faults in any system just one for an alarm siren that's been there for over 6 years.

Does sound like crank sensor. Usually as it cools off you are able start it again. It’s a cheap part that would be worth while to change just to rule it out even if it’s not showing a fault with it yet.

I’ve just heard that the CPS usually shuts off the car while driving as well. This hasn’t happened to me so not too sure but I’ll definitely change it out!Originally Posted by Frank022

The only no start issue I’ve ever had with my 06 A209 was caused by a faulty ignition would work fine 9 out of 10 times. But you would crank Drive turn off run in store etc come back turn the switch and have a try at a turn over and then it would be dead ie no response when you try to turn the key again. Then for no reason a few minutes later it would crank just fine. I don’t remember how they figures out it need a new switch b/c at first they could never find any codes or reason for it to happen.Originally Posted by Frank022

Update: changed CPS. Problem still persists. Yes, I have fuel pressure, changed the alternator, cleaned battery terminals, battery is a year old.
here's a link to two videos first one is the car warm. second one is 15 minutes later. I've been having to wait longer and longer in between starts now.

If not the CPS, maybe an issue with bad coils?

ExploreUpdate: found out what it was. the starter is getting heatsoaked. i assume because my car is tuned and the cats get very hot so its not able to start again for a while. i just bought a starter heat shield/blanket and hopefully that will take care of it. I found this out because I bought a new starter and that one was faulty and straight up would not work. but i then got another bosch one and it started right up but when the engine gets to operating temp, the starter solenoid doesn't turn over the car. It's very apparent now that I think about it but the design and location of the starter is so bad heat shield should come in tomorrow and ill update yall.

hey Palwan! Never was able to figure out the issue. I changed the starter, the transmission linkage bushings, the battery, checked all fuses, and literally nothing fixed the car. But one thing I did find was that the car always started in neutral no matter what. My car got stolen before I could fully diagnose the issue so still in the dark with what it was but I’m assuming it’s transmission related maybe the shifter assembly is my best guess. Sorry I could’ve have been more of a help Originally Posted by Palwan
