Dealer has news tomorrow

Im in NYC and i have a Clk500 on order i think 2nd on line. I called my dealer and asked them why so much silence with a release of a new car in a month or two and was told that Mercedes was having a honeymoon period with the new SL and that they didnt want to take attention from their flagship cars. In any case, he told me the clk should be coming out a month before the E class which i questioned since on the Mercedes site you can see info on the new E class but still nothing on the new clk. Finally he told me really didnt have any info to update me on but that he was going to a meeting later today with the production dates and information on the release of the new clk. He told me he'd call me tomorrow and give me a heads up after the meeting. Hopefully ill have more info on that soon.

In case the Clk500 is delayed to Oct i have a new M3 SMG being delivered in July. Im without a vehicle so timing is a big issue for me. But what id hate for to happen is if i end up buying the M3 and a month or two later the new clk comes out looking good. Its really a tease and the wait is killing me. I need a car now!!! I figure i cant go wrong with the M3 SMG either. They are both great cars and even tho i find the clk a classier vehicle im sure ill enjoy the performance of the M3. What do you guys think?

I know you are without a vehicle but taking delivery of a 2002 M3 in July when in just a few more months both the new clk and the 03 M3 will be out suggests you should be patient. Plus you'll get a better price on a left over 2002 M3.

Ok i just spoke to my dealer.

Seems like they still dont know for sure but i was told the best case scenario is that i get my car late august and worse case mid sept. Thats a long wait.

He also was not sure whether or not the CLk500 comes standard with the amg bodykit but he did say there was going to be a sports package if it did not.

The other things were standard and i ordered command, heated seats, keyless go, parktronic.... I opted not to get teh distronic cause it seemed completely uneccessary.

Finally i asked about that nice iolite blue and he told me it wasnt an option in the color choices he was given. Instead he said Orion Blue was the closest to the dark blue color i was seeking.

Im not sure i want to wait till sept. The clk500 definitely looks nice but i think im gonna get the m3 instead.

Well, Iolite blue is definately an option here in the UK, and orion blue is not. Perhaps it just has a different name in the US. I have an official UK spec brochure in front of me and there are three metallic dark blues shown. Why not check the order numbers with your dealer to see which one iolith blue is in the US...

The colours are

345 jasper blue
357 iolith blue
359 tanzanite blue

I'd scan n upload it for you, but I dont have a scanner :-(

Hope this helps anyway...

Well you sure are right that you can't go wrong when you buy either of them. If it's price you're looking at then the BMW would be your best bet! But if that doesn't matter and you think you'll like the MB much better then wait and buy the CLK500! Personally with me being more of a MB fan than a BMW fan I would just buy some cheap *** car like a Ford Escort or something like that and then buy the Mercedes-Benz CLK500 when it's delivered. Just my 2 cents!

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Paint Codes

Don't ask why, but paint codes translate to different names in the U.K. and the U.S. The last time I checked both nations spoke the same language. Anyway:

345 Orion Blue

359 Capri Blue

935 Quartz Blue

189 Black Opal (Which actually looks like a very dark blue)

I took these out of a 2002 CLK brochure, so if anyone has brochures on other models they might be able to find out other codes and names. Although I doubt they would make a particular color available on a model in one country and not another.

The colours and codes I have quoted are taken from a UK spec 2003 W209 CLK Coupe brochure.

There are 13 colours availaible in the UK
2 normal : Black & white
11 metallic : 3 dark blues, 2 dark blues, 2 blacks, 1 pale blue, 1 red, 1 green and 1 beige.

I can list them all by full name & part code if anybody really wants me to...

Ill see if I can scan the page at work tommorow...

PS : In the UK code 189 is "Green Black"

hehehe
