Warranty Center Extended Warranty Sale

I just got an email form the Warranty Center and they have dropped their prices on all extended warranties by $200. If you pay in full, you get another $150 off any coverage. So you can get up to $350 off if you are in the market for an extended warranty and they do cover AMG models.

You only have until 7pm est TODAY!

I have no affiliation with them, just when I was searching for a warranty for my 55 I got a quote from them, and must have ended up on their mailing list. They seem to have decent coverage and just thought I would pass it on.

Mercedes
From what company do you get your extended warranty? Is it from Mercedes Benz or other company?

Also, do you mind sharing how much you paid?

Thanks

It is not a MB warranty as that has to come within the first year of new car ownership. The warranty is from Platinum Warranty Company and brokered by the Warranty Center. My quote was for a preferred plan, most comprehensive for the AMG, for 7 years beginning TODAY and a total of 100,000 miles, NOT an additional 100,000 miles for $1,749.

But you had to purchase it by 7pm EST today.

Hi Brian, Thanks for sharing. Did you end up going with Lisa in California and the DC warranty?

is this the type of warranty where they state specifically what is excluded, and everything else is included? you might want to check and see if they cover all the electronics in your car like comand if you have it. i haven't found a warranty that would cover all the electronics and all the expensive stuff...except for the one offered by lisa. it's even better than the mercedes starmark warranty, too.

hey, it was some chrysler warranty rewritten to include mb. it was the only one avail for the car (+4 year old s-class at 55k miles). the cutoff point for buying the warranty is 60k miles. it's good for 5 years or until 100k miles. $3,590 with $100 deductable. it didn't really bug me that she couldn't get a $0 deductable one since her warranty covered the two things most prone to fail on that model car - comand and airmatic suspension. and all other warranty companies said they wouldn't cover these.

the warranty i got does NOT cover: maintainance, services, items used in services, wear items like manual clutches, brake pads, shoes, rotors, drums, belts, glass or plastic lenses, body and paint items including soft trim, snow plows, winches, and trailor hitches.

pretty much an MB factory warranty that covered more things than starmark or any other 3rd party warranty at the time.

I believe midget is referring to the same extended warranty that Lisa provides...is that correct? It seemed to be a very good one.

I do not have COMAND and opted for a "preferred warranty" coverage, best available from this particular company, and researched their labor rate pay scale and what items that are not included. It is not as extensive as what Lisa offered but less than half the price. So I figured for the difference of $2,000, I'll invest that money and pay for anything not included myself. Most everything is covered, but you never know. Also, mine is for 7 years and 100,000 miles, transferrable.

No longer car shopping...
Looks like the old adage of it being only as good as the paper it's signed on (about .05). Hope that Brian430 and others have not had any equipment problems.

The last info I saw was that Lisa L. was not in that dept. any longer. Somebody else was handling that desk, but I can't recall whom.

Call or search for "Courtesy Motors" in Chico, CA.

Thanks for the info Chappy! I will certainly keep my eye on them. No troubles thusfar! Hopefully they will get any "issues" ironed out and Mr. Petro will smooth out the rough edges of their claims dept. for the policy holders.

Brian,

Thought you might want to know that Platinum has ceased operations. Yolu might want to look at joining the lawsuit. Damn shame.

From consumeraffairs.com:

SmartChoice is not the only warranty company to have solvency problems. Toni, of Allen, Texas got a nasty surprise from Platinum Warranty Corp.

“I paid $2,200 for an extended warranty for my car from Platinum Warranty Corp. I found out, when I put my car in the shop for $4,000 worth of work, the company is under investigation for fraud by the Attorney Generals office for the state of Ohio. I'm out the cost of the warranty plus car repairs and rental car charges.”

Stacey, of Hanover, Pennsylvania had a similar experience after purchasing a two year, 24,000 mile warranty from Platinum.

“Now that my car needs repairs, I call to get information on how to get the car fixed. None of telephone numbers are good, I get a recording saying this number is no longer in use!!! I cannot get in contact with them. And my car needs repairs. I have never even filed a claim with them. I purchased the warranty back in December 2004. What do I do? Where are they? Are they out of business?”

In fact, they are. Platinum Warranty Corp ceased operations September 30 after being sued by the state of Ohio last year and filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May. A Cleveland bankruptcy court converted the Chapter 11 filing to Chapter 7 on October 12.

Please, no one do business with this company!

One thing I love about this place...the power of knowledge and the help from everyone here! Now, had I known these idiots were this shaky beforehand, but that is another story.

Thank you LorinserCLK55DT for the info. I will go to consumeraffairs.com and see about joining the lawsuit, or if you have any additional info on joinging the suit, please post it.

I'll keep everyone posted as to what I find on this matter.

Thanks again, maybe I can get a "good" spot in line!

Crummy news, indeed. Best of luck with any reimbursement. Do you have any factory warranty left? I'm curious if it's past deadline for any DC warranty.

I have no warranty from the factory as mine is an '01 with 50,000 miles. I had a conversation with my credit card company last night and they indicated there was a "good possibility" of not being charged for this transaction....even though I purchased it in April. We'll see on that one. I have also joined the complaint list in both Ohio and Iowa through the State Attorney's General office. It sounds as though they certainly have enough "evidence" to begin with, but I felt is was my duty to file a complaint as well. I know you cannot get blood from a rock, so I will keep on my CC company for reimbursement and let them deal with Platinum Warranty Corp.

I sincerely hope no one else purchased a warranty from these idiots due to my post and I wish had checked out their history more thoroughly. I would have, hopefully, at least seen the complaint list. My only flag from them was my conversation about getting repairs paid for and they indicated they issue a CC number over the phone so my mechanic gets paid. When I pressed them for how much they allow for labor rates, they said $68/hour, and it is a minimum of $70/hour locally, but thought the $2/hour difference was worth the comfort of having the warranty. I only wished I had known the warranty was worth less than the toilet paper I purchased yesterday.

Thanks again for the heads up info on this worthless company, otherwise I too would be one of the unknowns. The car has been flwaless through the 5,000 miles I put on thusfar, but I know this warranty would have helped with resale value if I ever decide to get something else. Warranties are just a statistical roll of the dice and hopefully one will never need them.

Brian,

Hope your CC company is able to work with you on this issue. Its instances like this that has always made me leery of getting an extended warranty. The warranty companies just want too much money for the services they offer. I would like too see a 5 year coverage plan for around $1800…that seems about what I would feel comfortable buying. Anything more seems too much.

Hope you get some resolution brian...you looking to get a new warranty in the future?
