Shift knob

My 05 CLK55 has a conventional shift knob that I would like to change. Is there any way of getting either aftermarket part or 06 CLK shift knob? Can this be done DIY or do I have to pay the dealer to do it for me? Thanks

Pic#3: 06 CLK55 (gerritg's fine machine)

Brabus will prolly be out of question but 06 version would be great!

Steve (steve@mbenznl.com) has a whole bunch of OEM shift knobs to choose from. Email him and ask for pics. It's pretty easy to swap now that I've seen it done, but probably not exactly the easiest thing to figure out without help.

So, how do you swap this thing? Just a vicious pull straight away or some twisting? thanks a lot

I got 4 models to chose. Can't decide which. Your inputs will be appreciated.

I would vote for the top one. Aluminum and leather are nice.

The best I've seen though is the Brabus one at the top of the post. Wow!!

I got the third one, w/ the chrome trim. It's nice, and obviously my favorite!

Well, here's they way I saw it done:

Tug on the leather (firmly) and it will release the little clips holding the base of the shifter in place. I'd start with one corner and move your way around slowly to make sure you don't damage any of the clips. Once they are all released, pull the leather inside out over the top of the shift knob. You'll see a rubber ring just below the knob, which you need to twist to release the shifter completely. Once released, pull straight up and off. Then do everything in reverse order, but make sure to twist the rubber ring back on to lock the knob in place. Each of the clips should lock back into place and you're good to go! Let me know if this description is too vague and I can try to explain better, if necessary.

Your description is very clear. Thanks a lot. I am leaning towards getting the first one since the silver cap will blend in quite well with the aluminum trim. Hopefully, I can receive the shift knob by the end of this month.

Wow the knob on the top post is great! How much do these other ones go for that have the shift boot included?

Thanks
Justin
