Talking Great Article From The M5 Site

The below link is from a veteran M5 /Z8 owner who test drove the CLK55 and ordered one he came aboard to the AMG side of town - His comments are not one sided and he points out some technical points - I agree with many of his findings ( I drive my brothers 02 M5 almost daily and agree)

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)
All points well made. I live AMG daily; what a joy!

Point he forgot: M5s burn oil.

For the first 10,000 miles up to the A service, I did not have to add one drop to the CLK55 AMG.

Only early 2000 do. They changed the piston rings and now it's significanlty better.

How much better?

1 quart every 2 or 3,000 miles for the M5?

10,000 miles up to the A service;- I did not have to add one drop to the CLK55 AMG!!

CLK is not as highly tunéd.

5,5 litre= 347 HP

5,0 litre = 400 HP

AMG Tuned

Gustav
The CLK 55 is 356hp as per A Dyno And 600 lbs lighter than the M5 - Different gearing as well - For the most part I would say it's pretty tuned
Driving both these cars they appear to be very similar in acceleration - one does not feel quicker than the other - truly

I agree, it's not a big difference, esp if you meet a bad M5 driver. But it is a difference.

M5 unrestricted top speed: 296 km/h.

The CLK is not that fast. But it's fast, I agree. How much faster would the CLK be compared to the E55?

Gustav -
A fellow down my block has a E55 - we raced three times on local roads. Two of the three on a lonely straight away - the CLK took him twice out of the three - (one straight away and one roll on at 75 mph) the one I lost was due to my inability to switch correctly - what could i say, it's my first auto stick - give me a 6 speed any day.

The CLK55 is faster 0-60 mph according the specs if I'm not mistaken.

Sure, the 5,5 l engien goes good. But the M5 is faster, that's also a fact.

The SL55 is another story

Saw one the other day, ubeleivably nice. Having a hard time accepting that it's so fast

Question Question

Gustav - Do you think the results from my brothers M5 is due to the newness of the car - three weeks old 900 miles - if so then I'm in trouble I guess

2000 E55 here, yet to be beaten by an M5, every race is extremely close, and raced only one CLK 55 with 3 seperate runs, and I walked him everytime over 110mph.
