Are you going the supercharger route for the performance mods? Have you considered the Brabus 5.8 or 6.1 motor conversions?
What have you found with respect to warranties from tuning companies?

There have been various threads about HPS on this forum; people and their experiences pre and post sale. You be your own judge when you have read them. $0.02

I am in the process of doing my research, filtering out hype and enthusiasm from facts. Kleeman, Brabus, and RennTech are the first choices based on reputation. Reputation also means high prices. HPS does not seem to be a favorite here but I just wanted to read if there were any new thoughts on them. I am in contact with their CA rep right now via email. They offer 4 options:
> Stage 1/ Performance Kit 1 $4,595.00
> ECU up grade, will also eliminate top speed limiter.
> 540 hp @ 5950 rpm
>
> Stage 2/ Performance Kit 2 $8,750.00
> Same as stage 1 plus shorter transmission.
> The transmission is modified for better acceleration.
> Same hp.
>
> Stage 3/ Performance Kit 3 $20,400.00
> Same as 2, plus high performance cam shafts, exhaust manifold, sport air
> filters.
> 595 hp @ 5800 rpm
>
> Stage 4/ Performance Kit 4 $30,300.00
> Same as 3, plus bigger throttle w/ optimized air intake duct and limited
> slip differential 45%, compressor pulley.
> 620 hp @ 5800 rpm
As I see it, huge leaps in HP may not be the best solution FOR ME. I can not see 620hp being transferred to the wheels without eventually something giving way. So I am looking for something more moderate in HPs, something in the 450hp range would be nice. Our cars are overbuilt to handle much more than what they came with but exactly how much more is up for debate. How I am going to my desired amount of Hps is still unknown. Headers, airfilters, and ECUs may be a start but that will not be enough.
The HPS rep has yet to answer my questions regarding intall cost (which I am assuming is not included) and warranty although I asked them specifically for this info in my first email. KTR European Motorsports here in MA will be doing the install so I need to be sure that whatever manufacture and they can work together for warranty purposes. I see no point in getting anything done long distance, it's got to be somewhat local. Still, it looks like I will have to be paying more to insure a better overall experience...it would seem that when it comes to superchargers for MBs, you get what you pay for...HPS being possibly the exception. Although superchargers' function is pretty straight forward, with our more sofisticated cars, attention to detail is everything.

You know E55 Cent, thanks...those output and price numbers did look very high. I think I will pass on the HPS option. I am looking at Brabus or Kleemann as being the two options right now. Kleemann would be it if I can insure that rest of the car can take the 510hp, otherwise Brabus will do just fine.

Not a good idea...
From what has been posted here, HPS is not a good idea. Here are two threads that din't reflect well on this company. Be careful before you do any thing to your engine.

Earlier this month I drove a CLK500 with an HPS supercharger for a couple of laps at Willow Springs Raceway (southern California). It had a wide, robust power band that was surprisingly smooth. It was a manufacturer’s car, so there are no owner’s comments to report.
