The new body is not expected until 2007 - 2008, If they put the new motor in June 2006 then the body change won't happen until 2008 - 2009.
The V8 M3 coupe is due at the end of 2006 so one would think MB would introduce the new CLK63 AMG in 2007 a little earlier to compete with BMW.
There is no way they will put the 63 motor in as a standard CLK as it is there new AMG flagship motor.
I spoke to MB here and they said the CLK would be some way down the track to getting the new motor. The CLK55 AMG is not even available in the US anymore because the Cabrio CLK55 is out selling it. The volume of sales was not there, just because you put a larger motor in does not mean that the sales of CLK55(63) AMG would pickup.
Like someone else said the current CLK body is not mean looking enough to be a brute HP car, it does not have that wide-stance look about it.
Hey, if your right, l will buy one though!
i really hope ur wrong, but ur most likely right.
june is a month b4 my b-day and only 4 months b4 my lease is up.
if it comes w/ a lsd and is a more sporty car i might consider it.
as for now, its between a cayman s, z06 and new m coupe(z4)

MB is discontinueing the 55 Kompressor engine. In mid 2006 the E,SL and the CLS will get the 63 engine. The magazine said that it has something to do with safing costs. It makes sense. AMG will not produce the old 55 engine only for the SLK and the hard selling CLK. They will shift next year the whole produciton. Efficiency. Synergies...
Okay I will later scan the magazine.
Have to go to work.
Kind regards from Germany,

Some MB techs told me late this afternoon that the 63 motor is going into the cars that are getting or are new chassis's, the new ML etc, as Gerritg said.
So I don't see the current CLK shape getting this motor as its now an old chassis.
Wonder if Gerritg can tell us how the CLK sales are going in Germany.

Not that bright.
As well the CLK 55 AMG needa fuel Octane 98 super plus. I just went to the gas station. 1,249.00 EUR = 1,470.61 USD per litre.
One US Gallon, 3.786 litres. Make up your own mind. Pretty expensive to drive such a car.
The 63 engine will be however very efficient and will have around the same consumption like the 55 engine. Curretly in the city I drive about 17l/100km
See the picture below for proof of collection
Maybe I have to see this in person to like it. I dislike the W209 body style not dissin you W209 owners but that's my opinion...Can't wait!
AMS is typically on top of AMG stuff. My bet is that we will see a CLK63 then.
They are the only mag that I have seen that ever is close to the truth......
Woo Hooo.....
Anyhow, I have been told by an AMG engineer that MB is cutting prices everywhere possible- if a cylinder wall can be made 0.5mm thinner then it will be. This creates alot of problems for the AMG guys because the engines can't hadnle much more than what they are already putting out so AMG has to do a lot of reengineering which also adds a lot to cost.

I'm going to estimate a 483hp CLK63 with 7G will turn a 12.6-12.8 1/4 mile time, depending on available traction (hint: needs wide tires).
