CLK 55 1/4 times
I was wondering what the CLK 55's run in the 1/4 mile run. I dont like to believe the magazines, cause most of the time when they do the 1/4, they dont launch it, and they keep the traction conrtol on. Has anyone had experiance or know anyone who has actually ran it? thanks
Car and Driver said my car would run a 14.9 in the 1/4, when i ran a 13.99 bone stock!

clk55
I brought my 2001 clk55 to the track last fall and did about 5 runs. They were all with traction control off, left foot on brake and right foot on gas with just a slight rise in the rpm's for the launch. This yielded runs of between 13.4 to 13.6 at about 106-107 mph. Bye Bye corvette C5, trans am ws6 and mustang cobra. You should have seen the look on their faces.

1/4 mile
At Ennis (near Dallas TX) I ran three runs and the results were pretty consistant 13.7-13.8 @ 107mph
With a 107 mph trap and about a 2.2-2.4 60' time, with any kind of traction the car should be 13.4-13.5
Can't wait for it to cool off this fall and try again.
The car mags have the CLK55 at 13.6-13.8 so I was very pleased.
oh, I have the drop in K&Ns and stock tires / rims on the runs above

Great to see another Dallasite here - I'm sure there are more! I am considering the drop in K&N's. Do you feel that they were worth it? Any noticable improvement? Where did you get them in Dallas (if you obtained them locally)?

definately
yes - nice little hp / torque pick up for the $s
see my dyno resutlts posted:

I don't have them in all the time. If you get them and need help installing them (in Dallas right?) - contact me bodyart27@aol.com
I've installed and taken them out a couple of times - piece of cake

K&N Fliters For AMG
I also bought two K&N Filters, Yes It Appears to be a difference in the cars idling and breathing - Hard to notice if there is an increase in power with 363hp it's not ease to see another 6-8hp as reported with the K&N - for the $86.00 I think it's worth it. :p

Man, I am surely going to pick those up then. I was prepared for you guys to tell me that they were like $400 just for the air filters. Guess I have already been browsing at bekkers.com for too long!
Thanks for the tip - and the offer, bodyart27

Try getting some Thermotec, cut to shape, and attach to the underside of the airbox. It will help get more consistent power with the cooler air as the engine gets hot.

Sorry...
Thermotec is the brand name of a product which is basically a derivative of the wraps they sell for exhaust manifolds/header systems. It kept the heat in the pipes and aided in scavenging gases out of the engine. The product I'm talking about does the opposite, it keeps the heat out of the induction system. It is like a thermal barrier mirrored finish blanket sold in sheets with an adhesive backing. Some **** guys here like me have cut sheets and installed them under the airbox and around the induction tubes. I noticed the improvement as consistent runs when the engine really heats up. In effect, you get cooler air for combustion.
check out the ff threads:
add 5% power
less heat=more power
