A Challenge, Help Me!!!
Hey guys,
A fellow worker has a WRX. Says he did some modifications and upgraded the turbo. Says he hits 0-60 in 5 seconds.
I've got my bone stock 2001 CLK 55. Do I have a good shot at killing him or is this going to be tough. I've never raced one before. He says we'll go from a stop and from a roll. What's your advice? Thanks!!!!

Here's how you do it.......bet him a $100.00 on the "stop" run. He's gonna take you..unless he misses a shift. After that run he'll be thumping his chest and strutting like a pea****.The next run...take him from 60-100mph....double or nothing....trust me....he's done. Those cars are good from 0-60 after that they shoot their wad.

2002 CLK55
Ctrider: I have been in a modded WRX (regular version) and a modded STI.
They will both get you off the line. Depending to the extent of the mods, you can take the WRX after 80mph (from my experience with my 02 CLK55) but not the modded STI (granted my buddy has over 425 rwhp). It all boils down to what type of mods the WRX has in my opinion.
Geez sometime I wish I still had my modded TT Supra.

Of the line you may have trouble. I had a modded WRX, depends on the mods and the turbo. WRX will have trouble breathing in the higher rpm range unless he has freed up the exhaust and upgraded the ECU and injectors.
Mine was quite fast and gave the Porsche Club guys fits on track days.

This could help you...
Ask for the break when you do the race from a dead stop. That ought to go a long way towards negating the WRX's advantage. From what I've read, the WRX is fast off the line, but only when launched properly (i.e., max rev clutch dump). If this guy's somewhat mechanically sympathetic, he may not launch as well. Anyway, good luck, and let us know what happens...

Sti Race
I purchased my 2001 CLK55 AMG in LA and drove it back to Utah. Along the way a STI decided to play. In some long straight stretches we floored around 80 and the STI would always fall behind immediately. Speeds went up to 130 mph and the higher the speed the farther behind the STI fell. The car (don't know the year-sorry) didn't seem to have the top end at all to hang with 372 lbs of torque. At will I could walk on the guy. However, we never had the opportunity to play at lower speeds.
That being said, an AWD car with a clutch drop around 5000 rpms will leave the line quickly (I had a modded Talon TSI) as all four wheels are moving the car forward with minimal wheel spin. However, your 1/4 mile trap speed will be several mph faster, which means you should be able to catch and pass him in the 80 mph range and above- assuming he got a perfect and timely launch on you and doesn't have a stage 3 turbo. If not he will never catch you. If you do race, race safely and away from other drivers at a street night drag strip in your local area. Good luck.

Thank you all,
This race will be conducted in a safe place absolutely. No question, I wouldn't do it otherwise. It will probably be in a few weeks but I will keep you updated and let you know how it turns out. Just a little nervous, I'm not sure what kind of driver he is, so we'll see. I appreciate all of your responses. Better to know going into this what different possibilities lie ahead!
Thanks, will talk to you guys soon.

Bob, at least put some K&N air filters in car.I not saying it'll make a difference but the engine will breathe better.

1987 Porsche 928 S4
when i had my 88 Porsche 928s4 i used to have one guy at work hound me to race. he had a Mazda Rx7 twin turbo, which i knew would beat me off the line, especially cause the 928 was an automatic. i told him I'd race him, first car to hit 175 mph wins. he stopped asking to race after that.

It's all in the launch...
Just work on getting a good launch without spinning the crap out of your tires....there've been threads in here on this, search for 'em. Launch is the key from a dig; from a roll, you should take him without problem, unless he's really, really modded the hell out of it.
Btw, how come your 55 has 430 wheels on it??

My car blew away a modded STI in a street race and on the expressway. I was'nt the one driving my car at that. George from www.icsperformance.com (modded high hp TURBOCHARGED M3'S) was driving my car after tuning it on the dyno!I Just watched the race while sitting in a Honda S2000.We were behind them of course!I truly believe if George drives my car it will hit low 13's or high 12's.Well I'm hoping at least! I also need to practice!

Thanks guys,
I'm gonna practice the launch. I found the threads on it!
I will definately let you know what happens.
I have the 430 rims because I liked the way they looked, plus I'm getting new calipers, with these rims you can seem them

I raced a well modded wrx in my cts v. I had a dual exhaust, eibach and bmr suspension and and lingenfelter air intake and ported throttle body I not only had a bad launch I also red lined the car in second and was still able to stay even until 3rd then was able to pull away with ease. My car was fast but not that fast my wife's e46 m3 stock would take the cts v.
