Carbon Fiber is a very delicate material. I had all carbon fiber extras on my Ducati Monster and it was a challenge to keep it from scratching or cracking. Once you break it you will need to replace the entire piece as it is not repairable as metal is. I think the weight savings for just a hood would not be that much.

Im in for a c/f roof. C/f is definitely not fragile when done right. You are supposed to use multiple layers in different directions and it will come out VERY strong. My brother is on a race car team and he works with c/f. Why not a c/f roof? All these bimmer guys do it, I wish some of us benz guys would be more open to mods and be more creative. I am part of a show team called Eurowerkz and the stuff thats available for bimmers is AMAZING! I wish half that stuff was available for my benz.
JLee- Why did you get rid of speedtuning? Im interested cuz I have alot of the same mods as you on my 208 and also have the speedtuning. Im working on a M3 CSL style trunk for my 208 in c/f (already have a hood), keep pushin the envelope bro.

Well the reason you haven't bought a BMW is the exact same reason why there are so many mods for them. (at least for me ;-) )

There is just too many of them. I can exagarate and say there are more bmw 3 series than neons or cavaliers in Boston. Now why would you want to have one :-)

That is true (whats the bs sign for anyway?). I was deciding between the M3, M5, S4 and CLK when buying my car. Although the 3's far outnumber the clk's there isnt really a shortage of clk's in this area either. I just wish there were more tuner mods available for our benzes that didnt cost an arm and a leg when the same thing for a bimmer is half the price.

I call BS... you looked at a M3, M5, and S4 but you settled on a '99 Non AMG car??? So it was a price issue or were thoes cars on posters that you were considering?

hahaha, ur funny. There is obviously price differences but I decided not to spend that much. I was looking at a 97 M3 and 01 S4 which really arent that much of a price difference form a 99 clk430 at the time. Are you questioning whether or not I can afford an M5? If so, maybe you should look at how much money I have put into the clk and how much I have in the bank and then rethink your accusations. I am on my 4th set of wheels since the winter and just picked up a brembo 14" BBK. I bought the clk430 as a show car not a go car. My car is not my life and I have nothing to prove to you so say what you want. I suggest taking that AMG badge and stickin it up your a** cuz I'll still get more looks in my car then you do in your 55 and ill take you on a track (road course, not 1/4 mile).

I was simply playing the which one of these doesn't fit with the others game... lighten up guy.

PS. Whats your SCCA Driver #? I'll look up how good you are... and If you think you can follow me at thunder hill you're welcome to come out and try!

Called BS on myself cuz not many ppl seem to care what "others" drive when they are buying a car.

I am paying 50+ on a car (I considered M3 while I was looking for my first CLK) I dont want a version of the same care for low 30's.

Now S4 is not even part of this class I think. May be RS4 if you want to compare to CLK55.

I would say the weight savings would be around 50-60 pounds for a hood, now if you could do fenders and roof, that is a lot of weight off, and I thought cf was about three times stronger than steel, or three times as costly

I have a c/f hood and I dont remember the exact weight savings but it was only a little over 20 pounds. I would only do the roof for looks.
Freddy- Talking to a guy in Cali who will do a CSL style c/f trunk. Dont worry I told him I need two. He's looking into it. Fiber design said they will take my current trunk, add the CSL pieces and lay it up with c/f for a grand. Id rather have it full c/f. Ill keep you updated.

I saw the 63 CLK coupe at the Geneva show. They did not have a cab on display. I own a 208 so I am not an expert on the 209 but to me the body looks identical to the prior year model. MB has only added a quad exhaust and a couple of rather ugly gills in front of the front wheel wells.

You know I thought about this last night and you having 4 sets of wheels proves nothing to me but your inability to make a decision... and furthermore you can buy a $30k car and dump $30k into it, you still have a $30k car with a lot of mods. If I've learned anything in my buying experience it is this. Buy the hot rod get everything avalibul on the car because buying the base model and sinking a bunch of money into it... still leaves you with the base model. You can't polish a turd!

My $.02

As I said before, I have nothing to prove to you. You obviously have alot of free time on your hands to be worried about me and what kind of car I drive (looks like its even keeping you up at night). Its funny that you mentioned a 30k car. Have you looked up the kbb value of your car lately? Yup, 30k. So where does that put you? Oh right, a 30k car with no mods aka "a turd". Last time I checked a 02 CLK55 is not a hot rod. You're not exactly pushing an 06 SL65 so I think its time for you to STFU!

Ummm.... I don't even know what to say to that, other than how old are you?

I have a lot of free time because what I do, affords me free time. I bought my 208 because I wanted that body style... And yes it is the "Hot Rod" of the CLK line.

I own several other cars and motorcycles and I'm constantly buying and selling cars. I've had quite a few different autos from a '65 pro street mustang to a '93 M5 to a '05 Lotus Elise... I enjoy driving I have no more desire to discuss this and for the record I thought about it for about 5 min on my drive home last night.

Good Day sir!
