I don't know, there is something fishy with this story. Who would you believe more, a U.S. car salesman or MB Germany? Who stands more to lose from this car's problems? There is clearly more to this story and I will be interested to hear what happens.

The facts as related so far don't add up and are incorrect in at least a few instances....
What does appear to be obviously true is that this car did not receive proper mechanical care during the period of time prior to the soon-to-be-infamous test drive occurring....

Well, there are two threads on this car, but I have decided to post this in this thread....
Hopefully the Mods will combine the two threads....
This is THE scoop on this car, from the guy who knows the entire history, and the entire story, on this car (one of my GM's - flame on....):
This car, No. 5, is known as the "taboo" car - the hands-off, nobody wants or should ever buy this car - CLK GTR roadster.
To make a long story short, this car was F'd up at conversion -- and has been F'd up ever since.
The car needs a new engine, new exhaust, and potentially new rear bodywork to accomodate the new exhaust.
Even if someone were willing to spend the 200K to 300K Euros to have the work done, the car already has such a troubled history, and is so problematic, that nobody with any brains will touch it....
Neither HWA or MBZ have any responsibility or culpability in relation to the car (once the car was taken to the USA and conversion work was performed all warranty responsibility was expressly voided).
THAT is the scoop on this car.

Why was this guy driving on the street in the first place? Was this car DOT certified? Doubt it. Or was this the "other" euro spec car involved in the Malibu PCH Ferrari Enzo fiasco? I bet the guy who was really test driving the CLK-DTR was the mysterious Dieter. I love a good conspiracy.
