DIY Oil change

Say does any one have a pictorial of how to do an oil change and filter on a AMG CLK 63?

I hear the dealer charge $300. for this.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can pump out the oil with an oil extractor via the dipstick tube and then use a filter wrench to unscrew the oil filter assembly. It's probably about $60 in oil/filter if you DIY it and will take about 30 min, and an extractor will run you about $60 more. The filter will need to be removed with a filter wrench from an auto supply store and should be located right on the top of the engine block - the oil filter is very easy to access and is made of black plastic and about 3-4" in diameter with hexagon-like pattern so you can fit the wrench on it.

You spend 90K on a car and are worried about a $300 oil change? Gimme a break. Why not just take it to Jiffy Lube?

$300 for an oil change is wrong if your Warren Friggin Buffet. Same reason I wouldn't pay $20 for a pack of gum if I was a millionaire. It's too much. I'd be worried about $300 for an oil change.

From what I remember, the MB dealer here charges about $110-$120 for an oil change. Still too much considering the simplicity of it.

Check out www.mercedesshop.com and click on DIY. It has a good picture how to about oil changes. You'll need a fluid extractor with good capacity and an oil wrench that fits properly. Good luck.

I haven't purchased my MB yet, but even $100 is ridiculous for an oil change imo. $300 is just plain foolish, no matter how much roll you have.

Its like you pay 90k for a car and you dont even wanna fill up the tank which is about $50 bucks.. So when you buy a highend car, do you not expect to pay its tolls?

Umm ... a different perspective ... I don't let Jiffy Lube touch my expensive car.

I would go so far as to say that after the free "service plan" coverage oil changes expire at the MB dealer, most people are better off doing their own oil changes than having the untrained grunts at the dealership do it. Many MB delears don't have their master technicians doing this work.

You probably should have bought a lesser car like a BMW. All service is included for the first four years.

Yeah, $300 is too much, $120 is about what most dealers should be charging. The materials alone are about $60 (8qts*$6 + $12 filter), add 1/2 hour labor and you are at $110. Plus you now have to dispose of 8 quarts of used oil.

I just don't understand how someone can pop 90K plus tax license etc on a car and then ***** about maintenance costs.

Post a pic of you changing the oil in your car, I haven't seen any CLK 63s locally yet.
