Who cares when I bought my key. Every dealership that I've called in Los Angeles county this past week has given a price of ~$60.

There is no way he got a key for that price in the last month. Impossible. I can believe he got it for that price before they raised the price. NOWAY NOW. IMPOSSIBLE. The price on that Key is over a hundred no matter where you go. Give us the name of the dealership where you got your key for $60.00 so we can give them a call. Good talk!!!

A - you're taking this way too personally....challenging someone just because
they claim they got it cheaper than OEM. so what? fact is that dealers can
set their own price. fact is, before and after OEM price increase, dealers
have sold at reasonable price retail (rare), as well as ripoff prices (common).

Before folks were tuned in to OEM prices, the going rate for Smartkey had
been $200. I had been trying to buy a replacement Smartkey for a couple of
years. Those who had reported <$100 keys came from dealers who sold to
walk in customers only (I recall Florida). Hardly anyone sold by mail order.

I'm scanning my MB price list and the dealer cost of this has been hovering
about $75 for a couple of years....and selling for about $200 retail. But again,
retail is whatever they choose.

OEMPARTSDIRECT is just an offshoot of Hammersley...an MB dealership.

I'm not taking anything personal, I'm just stating the facts and trying to help people get a cheap key. If you got a key for that price, then let everyone know where you got it from so that they can go there and get a key. This thread was started by me to help people get a new chrome key cheap. I got my key for $68.00. But that deal is over and gone. I went back to my dealer and asked them what the price of the key was and they told me they could sell it to me for $108, thats the cheapest and my best friend works in parts. Thats all i have to say.

but while you're at it, my six cylinder '06 is worth more than your 6 year old car so lets be real here... if i wanted your car, it could have been had.

I bought my car new 5 years ago. It was $78,000. And its paid for. Your car costs 45,000 on a good day. Next time step up. Lets be serious. If you could afford an AMG you would have bought one, or at least a CLK500, but your probably leasing it anyway.

this thread has degenerated from helping each other get a good price on
the Smartkey....into class based "you dont deserve to post here" because of
one's model.....to "i started this post...." to you're pond scum because you
live (x). sheesh.....way too egotistical for me .

You have lots to learn. There's a big difference between afordability and practicality.

My statement about his state was not said to belittle him. It was said because every dealership is different and what they charge in Illinois could be different than what they charge in Los Angeles. That's the point that I've been trying to point out to the OP.

By the way, based on the post that you made a month ago, I'm confused as to how now you suddenly bought the car five years ago brand new. If I'm not mistaken, you're 33 right now. You bought the car when you were 30. That would mean you bought the car 3 years ago. Which means you actually didn't buy it new, but used. Am I right or did I miss something?

Go to the dealer, with the part numbers in the first post and tell the parts guys that you want those parts. They'll notice that those are keys and will ask for your VIN number. When they start putting in the numbers they'll notice the vin number does not match up with the key's numbers.

From that point on.. try persuading them that you'll use the key as paperweight if they don't work. In other words, see if they'll just submit the paperwork.

That's what I did.. the guy wrote a big fat disclaimer at the bottom of the receipt "Sales are final, no returns if key doesnt work".

Hi AMGEEZY,

Can You help me with getting the part number for the new chrome keys for 2005 sl65 w/keyless go and 2006 e55 w/keyless go. From reading the thread, it seems like the part number you gave will not work with 04 and up keyless go cars. I really want the chrome keys and I want it to work with my keyless go.

You thread has been very helpful, thanks in advance.

George

there is another part number for the two-button key (for T models for example). 211 766 39 06.

Unhappy Received my chrome key but no keyless go

I just received my new chrome key for my 05 SL55. The lock/unlock, key in ignition work great but I have no keyless go. Is there some programming that needs to be done to the car to have this work? Did I order the wrong key? Is there another part number for keyless go keys? Thanks in advance....

p.s. the new key is WAY more pimp than that black crappy worn out one I have, just wish the keyless go worked!
