Is aftermarket warranty worth it? for W209 55?
I just bought w/ 26K miles.
and dealer is offering 3 yrs aftermarket warranty for 2k.
they said it will cover most of the parts what factory warranty covers.
so I was wondering if it's worth it or not?
thank you

I paid $2650 for a 5yr/100k warranty and it has been paying for itself. It's not that big things will go wrong, but the small electronic problems are easily in the $300-$1000 range usually. Plus you can always cancel it when you get rid of the car and get a prorated refund.

Depends on which warranty company it's with. Several aftermarket warranty companies have gone bust in the past few years, leaving the owners with worthless policies costing thousands.
Is there a deductible?
Do you pay first, then get reimbursed?
What is covered? More importantly, what isn't covered?

Dealer should be offering a Starmark Warranty which is the best, and probably the most expensive. But worth every penny if something happens.

That being said, my advice on any (non-factory) extended warranty is this:
Ask your repair shop which extended warranty companies they accept, pay claims on time, and repair cars using quality parts. Once you have a few names of warranty companies, then search for complaints on these businesses with the BBB, and your state's Office of Consumer Affairs and Insurance Commission, if applicable.
Shop price LAST.
Good luck and please share your results with us.

I have the extended MB warranty on my car... but I was told by many friends that AAA is a good choice, just make sure your shop does work with them.

2002 CLK55 Cabriolet (DEAD: 1989 300E, 1984 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible)
I decided to purchase one for my 2002 W208 CLK 55 cab, and I'm glad I did. Not too long after my original warranty expired, somehow my windows on the driver's side came together awkwardly at the top and even though I tried to be gentle and jigger them apart with the window controls, it still ended up burning out both of the window motors. I had to get them both replaced (and the rear window motor isn't the same as the front one) and all of the parts and labor came out to something like $1100 - free with my Extended Warranty. Even with as little driving as I do with mine, I still expect that it will pay for itself over the length of time remaining.
