W209 SRS light issue?
Out of nowhere my SRS light came on and "airbag service" came on under the malfunction menu. Today was the first time I had anyone in the back seat (well, 2 people actually). The light came on shortly thereafter...
Does anyone have any experience with this? I've had the car for 2 weeks, not exactly the beginning I had hoped for.

I have NOTHING, zip, nada
Bought the car privately...definitely got a knot in my stomach about it. I might have a hookup through a mechanic who works at a local Benz dealer though, so all hope is not lost.

Start with the simple things
Get out the manual, follow the instructions on disconnecting the battery,on our 99 it has a little door that allows you to get at the neg post without moving the seat, yours may also.Disconnect the battery, step on the brakes a few times and then reconnect the battery and follow any instructions to sync windows, etc.,start the car and turn the steering wheel all left and all the way right to reset the steering.
This may reset the srs system.
next if above does not work you need to check battery voltage, below a set voltage the srs light can be triggered.
next call nearest benz dealer and if you don't have the warranty booklet inquire as to how long the air bag srs system is warranted, usually longer then the standard warranty.
hope this helps,it is a start.
keep your head up,**** happens, you fix it and move on.Karma and all you know!!

I don't have a warranty left either. I live in fear of things like this.

this happend to me a month ago. There is a sensor in the passanger seat that tells the air bag to deploy and how fast its supposed to deploy. A weight sensor to know there is a passanger or not. Its a common thing apparently that it goes faulty according to the tech i talked to. Dealer quoted me $1000 i got it done at a local shop for $500 with the part and labor. They are the best MB service where i live. I think the part was call passanger seat recognition something. Hope this helps.

Dropping $1,000 after 2 weeks would put me in such a bad mood...I knew I shouldn't have let people in the back!
Clk22, where did you get your roof spoiler?

I'm going to give it a try this weekend, I'll grab my mechanic buddy who lives down the street to do it. I try to stay hands-off with most of this stuff...especially with a car like this.

I feel for ya' AOG. Try the battery disconnect first, and see how that works.
Also, I figured out how to prevetn the car from moving the steering wheel and seat everytime you get in and out.
