Few issues on 208 CLK55 - opinions please

I finally hit the 30 days + 1000 miles for my ext warranty to kick in on my 208 CLK55. I’ve got a small list of things to attend to – some warranty friendly and some not. Just wanted to get some opinions:

CD changer skipping – really annoying. It skips when I got over tiny bumps. Has anyone run one of those laser cleaner CD’s or is it best to just replace the changer? I only play store bought CD’s (no burns). For replacement I believe my warranty will cover.

Transmission fluid – I don’t believe it’s ever been done on my car but can’t say for sure. I know I’d pay for this myself but just didn’t want to tinker till my warranty was active. I know these are sealed transmissions and some dealers would leave them alone but is the consensus this should be done? I have 54K on the car.

Brakes squealing – I notice once in a while and it mainly happens when the brake pedal is not pressed all the way down. I know for sure it has gotten new pads but not sure about the rotors. Is this squealing likely the rotors or could it be something else? I know the 208 fronts are pricey. Wish this was a warranty item

Thanks for any info-

The CD should be a warranty item - my factory changer never skips.

The consensus is that you should change the tranmission fluid at the 5 year/50K mile point. MB took a foolish marketing positoin when "sealing" the transmission. It's not a user-friendly job, so unless you're good at DYI, have the dealer attend to it.

Squeaking is likely the pads, but have a mechanic take a look to be sure.

1. I think my CD changer has skipped once since I bought the car 06/2002. Have it looked at. FWIW, the factory extended warranty does not cover the radio....hope yours does.

2. I'm changing my tranny fluid every 30K miles. Change the diff fluid too.

3. Are the new pads OE? Make sure they're installed correctly....did you bed them in?

Ditto on the tranny fluid !!!!

Yes factory says tranny is sealed - no need to change fluid and filter. YEAH RIGHT!!!!!

Always Always Always change fluids and filters. Much Much cheaper than a $6000+ new factory tranny.

Yes I have done mine as well.

I think every 30k miles for tranny fluid change is too soon. More like 50k since the fluid is synthetic. Unless you track your car.

Cool

1. try a lens cleaning disc and check your fiberoptic cable at the changer.

2. Have trans serviced every 50k.

3. Are the pads new? If so give them a little time. I have heard alot of squeaking issues with aftermarket pads though if they are.

1. I don't. Mbenzman works on my rides unless there is a warranty issue.
2. Yes. I also recommend brake fluid changes at 2 years or less, radiator flush every 2 years, oil/filter changes at 5K or less.

My needs may be different than yours....I've only covered 40,000 miles in 6 years, so I'm not having to change the tranny fluid every 2 years.

Thanks for all the replies. The owner I bought the car from had the brakes done at 50K and I confirmed that with the dealer before I bought it. I would think they used OEM for sure. I will have them looked at when I get the trans done.

The changer - thanks unlucky. That's good advice on the cable and lens cleaner.
