Went to the track last night. 13.1 @ 107 mph!
A bunch of us from a local car club went to the drags last night. I figured I'd run since I have never run my CLK55. I was very happy with my runs. My car is stock besides the Magnaflow muffler and dual tips performance wise. I ran with my 19's because I was too lazy to put the 17's on.
First run
2.136 60 ft.
13.6 @ 104.2
Third run
1.998 60 ft.
13.177 @ 107.78
Fifth run
2.008 60 ft.
13.199 @ 106.63
I ran 6 times and was just playing with launch and shift technique. Both 13.1 passes I held the brake and gas to 1000rpm on the line and floored it and manually shifted the car. I was quite suprised when I ran both 13.1 passes. I was hoping to get 13.3!

Sorry about the picture quality. They are cell phone pics. I have a couple links to cell phone videos but the quality sucks. At least you can tell I was whipping the Corvette I was racing!
This run I hit the rev limiter in first gear and ran 13.7 I think.

It may have gone faster with the 17's because of the weight, but then again, with the 17's it sure does spin a lot more. I think there is definitely another tenth in it with some practice, but I was too busy tuning on one of my friends cars to make a whole bunch of runs.

It's probably about time to change out the stock spark plugs, put some K&N filters in, maybe try the 17s, and possibly get a tune. It would be cool to dip into the 12's with minor bolt ons. I was also going to try out a single 4" intake tube with a conical K&N and see if it makes a difference. I don't see the stock tubes being very beneficial being right behind the solit part of the hood by the grill. And cold air can be pulled from the passenger side below the headlight area.

I left the tire pressure at my regular cold 36psi. The track was prepped fairly well. If I left at idle and punched the gas it would burnout. The best launch was to hold at 1000 and floor it as I let off the brake. Then it would usually hook really good. I am not sure how much the wheels weigh. They are definitely heavier than my 17's though.

Buy looking at your slip I would say wheel spin off the line was minimal? what kind of tires are you running? 13.1 at 106 would indicate to me less wheel spin i did a 13.2 at 108 with some wheel spin. seems lack of wheel spin yield quick times and slower et's. then vice versa more wheel spin = slower times but faster trap speeds. I ran one run at 13.6 at 109mph with lots of wheel spin and that gave me slower times but fast trap speeds. I would say that your car is just about on point for were it should be. what were your weather conditions? If you don't know Dragtimes.com has a cool tool that logs most temp conductions at most popular tracks. and it will give you a optimal conditions corrected number with entering in some simple data.

Nice! I ran a 13.3@106.5 with a 2.1 60ft where I hit the rev limiter boom! Yes hitting the rev limiter does slow the car down by .2sec. My car is bone stock. In better conditions I would get a 13.0@109.

hooley- I am running Falkens in the rear. You are right about the wheel spin. Both 13.1 times I had zero wheel spin. I was running at Portland International Raceway and the weather was about 65 I'd say. Not sure what the humidity was.
Jon- That dang rev limiter! definitely slows it down!

Nice drag times.
I am curious, did you try letting the car shift itself? I would think after a run or two and the car adapts to the aggressive driving style that it could avoid the REV limiter better than in manual mode. First gear comes so fast you will hit it every time in manual mode. My experience has been that power braking off the line and letting the car shift itself seemed to be better- just wondered if you tried both ways.
In any case, nice driving and thanks for sharing.

ashutt: I tried both manually shifting and automatic shifting. Both were really close, but my best time was manually shifting. First gear is pretty quick so you definitely gotta be on top of it. There are a few weeks left for drag racing so I'll probably hit the track for some more runs again. I'll keep you guys posted.

Thanks for the input. Your times are great. Did you stay in 3rd for the end of the run?
I raised the redline 400 RPM via chip mod and noticed that the car would pull very hard to redline in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. In manual mode I was able to take the car to the new redline of 6,400 RPM. 1st gear maximum speed was 50 mph at 6,400 RPM. 2nd gear maximum speed was 80 mph at 6,400 RPM. 3rd gear maximum speed was 124 at around 6,100 RPM, which I couldn't continue to redline as I ran out of road. I estimate it would be between 124 and 130 at 6,400 RPM.
The only suggestion I would have for your next run would be to make sure (if you already don't do this) you have a lower tire pressure than normal in the rear (22 psi?) in order to spread out the tire for more traction. Higher pressure will not only cause tire bounce but it will also provide less traction off of the line.
With cooler temps, you are bound to produce better numbers. Good luck!

Nice. Very nice times and very cool to have your car on the track! Many people around SoCal forget how fast these cars are N/A, and I always hear about the Audi RS4, blah blah blah. The CLK55 FTW!

Chappy- Thanks!
ashutt- yeah, I was prepared to lower the tire pressure, but I wanted to keep the max possible in it while still being able to hook. What chip mod do you have?
SoCal- It is fun because not many people expect them to run that quick. I was happy beating the Corvettes and GTOs!
Well, I was hoping to go back this weekend, but today I noticed my motor mounts are broken. I have been hearing a clunk in the front end for a couple months now. If I hit it in 2nd and let off I can feel the engine drop down and clunk. It sucks, but I'll get it fixed soon. I started building a cold air intake today at the shop so hopefully next time out I can compare the 2 intakes!

I have the SpeedTuningUSA ECU Upgrade, which I had them raise the redline to 6400, remove the speed limitation of 155 mph and configure the car's performance for 94 octane. It was well worth the $350.00.
