How does the GTR compare to the 6L Kleemanized beast?
Your CLK has always been one of my favorite all around (technical and aesthetics wise) 208's.
Glad you're back & hope you post more often.

The CLK pulls damn hard in any gear at any speed. As with most high powered MBs, it has trouble getting traction off the line, but once it hooks, it is like a sledgehammer. The chromaly cage really helps give the W208 some of the ridgidity it needs to handle all the power and significantly improves the handling. I haven't run them head to head, but I would expect the GT-R to take the CLK off the line, but the CLK to start pulling on it at at higher speeds. The CLK has more HP and is significantly lighter, but the GT-R has incredible aerodynamics. I am planning on tuning the GT-R.
The GT-R is on a totally different level when it comes to handling. I just haven't driven anything that is so effortless to drive at high speeds. It's just amazing. The CLK is more of a crazy German muscle car (that I have nicknamed "Deathtrap") that gives you a hair raising visceral driving experience. The GT-R delivers driving Zen. I haven't wanted to drive anything else since I bought it.

Nice but I couldn't imagine what it's like cleaning 3 black cars! What have you done to the CLK as far as engine mods?

Bring your CLK to The Showdown
For those who want to know:
The CLK does not have a 6.0. That project got shelved due to some last minute impatience on my part. It is a 5.5 liter Kleemann SCed engine with some reinforced engine parts and a ton of tuning time for street driveability. It is putting out over 600 hp, but not quite the original 700 hp target. It has upgraded suspension, 15"/14" brakes, custom carbon fiber interior (including seats), BBS LMs fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, sway bars, custom exhaust from headers back, upgraded stereo and improved chassis with chromaly rollcage. Lost about 200 lbs from seats and the hood. I'm leaving out a ton of detail, but needless to say, the car is very fast, reliable and handles about as well as a W208 can. The GT-R has me spoiled when it comes to handling.

Dude terrible collection
So TOTALLY kidding. I am beyond envious! Very very classy collection. Hope mine looks half as good, when spring rolls around. Didn't know you before, but looks like I have a lot to learn from you and many others on the board. Welcome back!

Good to see you back here, Sleestack. Nice to know the CLK finally got completed! How is the transmission holding up with the power?

Out Of Control!!
He's alive!!! SUCH a nice car! Can you post more pics of the interior? I like the Recaro's, did you get a SRS light after installing them? I'm assuming you are using the VIS c/f hood. Great work with the car, I've always wondered what happened to you as I was anxiously anticipating the results of the build! It makes 600 crank hp right? Your car is

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupé
Too far away. Would be fun, but to be honest, I don't care much for straight line speed alone anymore. I AM looking for a NorCal bay area volunteer who is willing and capable of driving my CLK to do some runs with my GT-R.
For those who want to know:

- what size sway bars and from where? Bigger than stock AMG?
- coil overs? If so, from where?
- Size of tires?
- Did you add LSD? If so, from where?
Thanks in advance! My recent training at Nurburgring underlined the importance of adding handling as well as the ponies ...
... and BTW the same days AMG had its event at Nurburgring Nissan was running GTRs for its customers on the F1 track adjacent to the famous North Loop. Nissan kept going after AMG quit at 5 pm (difference between the Germans and Japanese?) and so we got great views of the GTRs from our balconies at the trackside Dorint Hotel. The GTRs are indeed fast and the way they power around turns makes every driver look like a hero. At least Benz owners can take consolation in the fact that the V6 on the boil is no match for the sound of a 55 or 63 V8.
