Best drop, suspension - springs - Coilovers
I want to drop, lower my 2005 CLK 55 AMG
I don't want to slam it to the ground, I want a nice drop with the best
ride quality.
Soo Springs or coilvers, that is the question...
From my past experience coilovers are the way to go, but that was with my
last car. Maybe the choise is different with a MB![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
Coilovers generaly goes for 1,500$
Springs goes for 400$
Is the ride quality with coilovers worth the extra 1,100$ ??
Because I really like the stock suspension on my car, I don't really want
to change it that much, I just want it lower.
What's the best way to do that with an AMG ?
If the answer is spring: what company and model ??
If it's coilovers : what company and model ?
If you have experience with a product, please state you car's model and year
thanks if you guy can help me out here.

i have h&r on mine now. i paid $550 installed.i think the tein basics cost around $1200. in my opinion, if you have the money, get the coilovers .you will be able to fine tune the ride height.

go for springs, i picked up some H&R springs for about 250. and installed them myself, since you have a AMG to begin with, ride quality is going to be the same but about a inch drop.

If I owned a W209/55, I would strongly consider a set of PSS9s (Bilstein).
Otherwise, you can retain the stock feel by ordering a set of euro-spec springs. Check with "Stiggs" on the part numbers. He had a set he ordered and subsequently sold a while back.
Good luck.

i prefer coilovers but you will have to run spacers if you go this route. expect to spend about $2000 for coilovers, $200 for the spacers, and about $50 for longer wheel bolts. this is definitley not the cheapest route to go lower. you may want to stick with the springs.

I would go with coil overs and choose KW's for their easy adjustability. You will not only be able to play with the ride height, but also with damper settings like compression and rebound. By getting rid of the struts, you'll also lower the unsprung weight which in return improves ride quality.

hummm tof decision here, not all on the same side.
last question is:
if I decide to go with the H&R springs which is the brand that all recommand
will lower about 1" ( what I want) : will I need to change my shocks
in 1 year? remember a have an AMG
(not sure if that changes anything s the standard MB)

If you do decide to go with springs only, the H&Rs are great, but a bit more aggressive in the lowering than say, an Eibach spring. For coilovers, KWs are great.

if that is the case up front do not buy the coilovers. you need spacers up front to clear the perch on the coilovers. i run spacers in the rear just because i wanted the perfect stance. my wheels are 8.5f and 9.5r. i think i am running 10's up front and 15's out back.

checked my paperwork and i actually have 8.0 up front and 9.5 in the rear. offsets are +34 front and +35 rear. i had to add a 7 or 10mm spacer up front to clear the coilover perch. i added a 15mm spacer in the rear. in the rear you could go with a much lower offset. the W209 from the factory has +37 front and +30 rear.
i am not sure if the W208 is similar or not.
