You may need to replace the battery in the key card.

This may sound dumb, but did you depress the brake pedal at the same time?

It's the big black thing with the four push buttons and the tri star on it that you have been inserting into the dash mounted ignition switch to start the engine. Most probably call it an ignition key, or maybe a key fob.

It also contains a mechanical door lock key for emergency use, should the batteries die.

It has two CR 2025 lithium batteries that require periodic replacement.
When my batteries are low, the speedometer annunciator (information center) indicates the low key battery condition. It also reminds you to take the key with you when you get out.
I suggest you read the manual......lots of good information inside.

the batteries are fine as the doors unlock and lock and the trunk opens just fine.

Hey guys....it may not be the batteries. Mine sometimes does this and an awkward "jiggling" of the gear shift does the trick. There's a sensor or some kind of mechanism that has to be just right for the keyless go to work on my 2003 E320. Not often, but it does happen sometimes... Sort of like when some cars' steering wheels are locked too far to one side....you have to move it slightly to get the key to work (or to come out, etc)....
