Angry Need New Brake Pads

Amigo's
I Noticed When Changing My Wheels That My Pads Are Runing Low - I Contacted The Local MB Dealership And Ask For A Price For The Replacement Of Front And Rear Pads - The Service Guy Tells Me It's Going To Be 350 - 400$ - Is That Right ? Sound Like A Rip Off To Me - I Didn't Pay That Much For My 996 - What Gives ? I Was Thinking About Replacing The Stock Pads To Green Racing Pads - Can You Guys Give Some Feedback -

Yep. They are pricey.

Sorry, but cannot advise about non-factory pads.

How many miles do you have on the pads?

p.s. Glad to see you were able to keep your CLK!

I think it should be covered...

under warranty. My X5 had worn brake pads and they replaced it for free, no charge, and it had 45,000 miles. If BMW covers it, MB should cover it because MB's service to customers is far appreciable than BMW.

I'm guessing, but did you get about 25K miles out of the pads?

Brake pads are not covered under warranty unless the car has an extremely low amount of miles. A set of brake pads lasting 22,000 is not abnormal. And yes, AMG pads are much more expensive than standard pads. In fact, I actually had to order a set of pads for a CLK55 cabrio because we didn't even stock them.

No longer car shopping...
You think that's expensive?

If you think that's expensive, you ought to try out replacing the pads on a '97 740iL. Cost $1,200 because (according to all those who know) BMW designed the rotors to wear out as well. So when I replaced the pads @ 70K I got the "opportunity" to also replace the rotors! FMR!!! Before any of you ask, the answer is no, the pads had not been worn through. No metal touching anything. I thought it was so crazy I went to two other non-dealer shops and learned the same thing. I am SO happy to be rid of that puppy. The car was great but @ an average of $1,000 per shop visit, my pocketbook was wearing a little thin...

.............I think, no I'm certain that there must be some miscommunication. I have replaced my pads many many times even before they are worn because I'm looking for the "ultimate" low dust, and low noise brake pad. he pads are typically way less than $100 a pair for the front and take less than 15minutes to replace. I have never had to change my rear pads. Go to tirerack.com and purchasewhat I think are the best pads right now.........the ebc greenstuff for $90 a pair. The offer virtually no dust and I'm yet to notice any brake noise as I did with The potterfield kevlar pds.

my car will probably need pads soon, but the way it seems to be it that I'm going to have to replace rotors too, pads still look ok but rotors already show a bit gap all over the pad surface, is this pretty normal? my car has 63k miles.

I Thought The Same Thing When I Visited Their Site To Obtain My Wheels And S03 - But I Was Thinking, Would That Void My Warranty, The MB Dealership Where Is Live Is A Pain In The ***, When I Went To Buy My CLK55 ///AMG They Told Me That They Don't Get Those Kind Of Cars, Their Clientele Is Not Looking For Performance Coupe Of That Type - Would The Pads Be More Trouble Down The Road Then There Worth ?
