Brake fluid change? amg yea or nay

Hey guys... the dealer tells me the brake fluid on AMG's need to be changed every 2 years to prolong brake pad life... true? or just trying to eat my pockets... the brake fluid is clear as water and the car is a 2005 with 40,000 miles.

Kevman
thanx in advance

These AMGs use Dot 4 synthetic brake fluid so it shouldnt be changed every 2 years. Besides it has nothing to do with brake pad life.

You want to change the brake fluid every year or so anyways because brake fluid is hygroscopi (water loving), so they absorb water from the enviroment. This will lower the boiling point of the brake fluid and could cause potential deadly brake fade if they get hot.

As for brake pad life with brake fluid, I don't think I can find a connection.

Easy is relative. If bleeding the brakes with a pressure bleeder is easy, then yes, it's simple. Connect the Motive pressure bleeder, add a liter of fluid, pump it up to two bar, and the flush can begin. I alternate between ATE Super Blue, and ATE 200. They are the same fluid, but one has blue dye. The dye allows me to determine when I've successfully bled as much of the old fluid as I can get from the corner I'm working on.

If this sounds like something you’d rather not do, my local dealer charges $100. For the DIY'r, the biggest expense is the pressure bleeder. Those are about $50. The fluid is under $20. Time alone with the car, jazz playing in the garage (a sure way to keep my wife out), and knowing it’s done right? PRICELESS!!!

I also use ATE Type 200 which has a higher boiling point than regular fluid. You wouldn't need that unless you are at the tracking braking a lot (boiling brake fluid will result in loss of braking power). If I was to buy over again I would buy the Motul brand, which appears to have a higher boiling point than my ATE product- but either are great. Good luck.

Motul does have a higher dry boiling point, but their wet boiling point is lower than ATE Super Blue. So that means you'll have to bleed them more often than ATE Super Blue.
