AMG has discontinued . . . .

It's old news that the 2010 E-coupe replaces the CLK. However, I haven't seen a thread on Mercedes-Benz's decision not to build an AMG version. Then again, I may have been asleep at the wheel and missed the thread.

This can only help CLK55/63 resell value, no?

"The AMG Sports package for the E550 coupe bundles an aero body kit (front apron, larger air intakes, side skirts, rear apron) with 18-inch AMG alloy wheels, performance tires, sport suspension, quicker steering and larger brakes."

It's like your car and mine. I can buy all the suspension bits, upgrade the brakes, and "oooh and aaaah" over the body cladding, but the right pedal on your car activates a thermal nuclear torque apparatus. In comparison, the right pedal in mine barely moves the car.

AMG says adding a 63 to the new E-Coupe would impede CL63 sales. That may be why the CLK never got the M113 K motor. Not the pricing so much as "why would a customer buy the CL55 (K) when the CLK55 (K) pulls away from it like Chris Paul leading a fast break?"

The new E550 coupe will make a good platform for tuners.

I'm lusting after the CLK63 Black Series, but have to seed two college funds first.

Marcus as usual, you are spot on. Nice catch about them not producing an AMG (E-Coupe 63?) version, which is what is really newsworthy.

After learning about the "renaming" I was curious about how they would market an E63 coupe. Would it be like how BMW does the M5/M6? If so, then the CL63 would be a more likely (and larger profit margin) product.

Essentially, all CLK55/63 models now take one more step into becoming collectible.

You guys really think this will help our resale value? Its already in the tank. I'd say if anything they might stabilize but I doubt it will go up. I'm still thinking the resale will go down even more.

To quote a brilliant writer: "NO ENGINE, NO BADGE"
I'm sure the whole "sports package" is a great money maker for MB, but it doesn't make it any more palatable

This is what I've seen out there, but I also heard of an article in another UK pub. that talks about an upcomming AMG version, maybe just not for "U.S."

Perhaps. At least from the standpoint of a mid-sized coupe, with limited production and decent power/handling.

If the CLK55 becomes the last AMG coupe, I think there's a good chance the desirability quotient will rise. The CL is a coupe, but it's just too big to be tracked. That leaves one, no longer in production, "collectable".

'00 Mercedes 430/55 clk cabriolet
Hi guys 'n' gals.

After reading the posts I thought I'd bettter put my 2 cents in.
It's been tauted around for a while now that here in the UK we'll be getting an AMG version of the new E Class. We think it'll be the coupe version. Rumour has it that it'll have 518bhp although I've read 525bhp.

Any how I'll keep reading and watching as the E500 (550) as badged goes on sale here in June '09 and the AMG supposedly in September '09.

I hope you guys get it also, or maybe because you have more SL65 Black series on order you might get something a bit different.

D
518 is horsepower, 525 is ps which they use in Germany....I had this explained to me a few years back by another BMW-owning member here.

I was looking fwd to an e AMG coupe, shucks, but then AMG were churning out too many models imo

Mercedes unveiled the E63 sedan at a recent auto show with 518HP. I would think it would be an easy task to put out an E63 Coupe since they share the same chassis now.
