Red face wiring for Illuminated AMG door sill?

Help, I have searched this entire forum and did find any threads on wiring details for illuminated door sills for W208 CLK.

If someone has installed the illuminated door sill on their own, can you please repond with details of which wires (colors) to splice so the door sill illuminate when the door is open.

I have taken the OE sill out and have access to all of the wiring. I found the wires for the door switch, hot power lead.... and 3 million other wires there as well. HELP....

Thanks in advance....

Never mind guys. After probing around, I found the correct wires and my illuminated AMG door sill has been installed.

If anyone is interested on how to, let me know and I will post the details of the install.

Thanks...

Here are the wiring details for CLK W208.

Here is what I did on my CLK:

1. The 12V hot power is a THICK red with white stripe. This wire is located under the sill and toward the front of the door. There is only 1 THICK red with white stripe wire on each side (driver and passenger). The ground wire that is connected to the door pin is the following:

* driver side = brown with yellow stripe, or you can use brown with grey stripe.

* passenger side = brown with blue stripe.

So, connect your red wire from the door sill kit with the THICK red with white stripe wire. Make one connection for the driverside and one connection for passenger side.

Connect the black wire from your door sill kit with the brown with yellow stripe for driverside and then black to brown with blue stripe for passenger side.

Good luck.

Thanks for your help. But...

Maybe this is stupid but, could you also tell how did you disassembled the OEM ones and how did you fix the new ones. Mine aren't AMG's but it may help. Thanks again.

To remove the OE sill, just pry up or lift at the edge of the door sill. It will pop out. It's held in place by some snap in device.

Your aftermarket sill should come with 3m double sided tape on the back. All you need to do is clean of the surface on your car once you remove the OE sill and tape the aftermarket sill to the car.

Hmmm,
I sent a DIY to Ben a few weeks ago pictures included.
When you get some time Ben can you post it?

That sounds too easy! I thought I read somewhere it was a pretty involved install. Would it be the same for an S500?
Would it create fault code problems, etc.?
Thanks

Thumbs up

Finding 12 VDC Power and a Ground that is connected to the door switch. Pretty easy stuff. (Even though it took me awhile)
The trick is finding power that doesen't carry a signal of any kind. That way you don't set any fault codes.
The power draw is minimal so it really should be a problem.

Is it possible to put the stock sill back in after you pry it out?

Yes it is.

Yes. I tried to that it out and then I put it back again and it was easy. The sill is secured in place with 3 snap type things. For the wiring I read in another forum that if you have courtesy light in the doors you may use this wiring to connect the door sills.

Hope it helps.
