2002 CLK55 Cabriolet
Newbie w/ 2002 CLK55 Cabrio ????s
I just bought a 2002 CLK55, and let me start off by saying, "I wuv zee Germans!" Love the car, but starting to hate the previous owners. I bought the car in Cali, I live in CO, and had it shipped to me. When it got here the "too much oil" light was on. When I looked in the cap, it was pretty dark and under the cap looked sludgy (if that's a word). I also noticed my idle seemed high, like 1100-1300 in park or neutral. Had the oil change done at a MB dealership. Initially the level was fine when I checked it at a gas station shortly thereafter, but on the way home light was on again. Ended up taking it back, they pulled some out and so far so good. Next I check the air filters....now I'm not sure how long it takes to get this type of breakdown for paper....but the filters crumbled when I hit them together to see how much dirt was in them, not to mention the pile of sand the was in the airbox itself. So it's the middle of the night and obviously no one carries these filters, but I find some that are really close...like maybe 5mm short length wise, and maybe 3-4mm too wide.
After this long story, my questions are these:
Anyone know any reason why my idle is fast?
Anyone found any cheaper filters, or is K&N the way to go?
-dealership wants $49 a piece for paper, and K&Ns are only $2.00 more...
Any newbie answers to questions I'm not asking, but should be?
....any help is greatly appreciated
Also...anyone know where I can get a windscreen for less than the $705 dealer price?

Autohausaz dot com has the filters for about $20.
If the oil level is correct on the dipstick, but the display says it's too high, it I would guess that the oil level sensor has gone bad. The level on the dipstick changes with temperature (8.5 quarts of oil expands a fair amount when hot), so you may want to check it when hot, or just make a mental note that if it's filled to the upper mark when cold, it will be above that when hot (overfull).
1100-1300 is a very high idle. That's the cold start idle for mine, and it lasts about 30 seconds. When warm, my car idles at 350 to 400 while in drive. It could be a bad temperature sensor (never heard of one failing on these cars), but I'm going to guess you have a vacuum leak. Having never had a vacuum leak on my car, I have no personal experience. I have heard of people needing valve cover gaskets, PCV breather plate gaskets, and the hose that connects the PCV to the valve cover (rare for any of the three), but those are all Interweb guesses, so someone with some diagnostic skills should check it out.
Whatever the problems are, please post the solutions after it's fixed. As they say "Inquiring minds want to know."

01 CLK55
I had a high idle problem, it turned out to be this vacuum line. My motor mounts were bad so when ever I hit the gas the line would pop off.
Hope this helps.

2002 CLK55 Cabriolet
Sorry it took so long to reply...was going through and realized that I never gave the low down on what was going on. So I reached down to the accelerator at a red light one day and pulled back (towards myself) on the pedal...the rpms came down...I was pulling with a decent amount of force...(plan was to just "bend it" to perfection) when all of a sudden there was a kinda "click" or "pop", nothing violent...but it dropped the idle back to approx 600, and I haven't had any issues since. I think it may have been the ball joint type connector on the end of the throttle cable(under hood)...seemed a little sticky, I put a little oil on it to keep it freely moving. Thanks for everyone's suggestions...
