Xenon Ignitor melted
Recently my Passenger side xenon started flickering and would eventually go off, so I decided to check it out and discovered my igniter melted.

The igniter also melted part of the bulb.

I have several questions
1) How much does an ignitor cost at the dealership?
2) Should I just get an aftermarket HID kit?
3) If I do get an aftermarket HID kit, would I lose the auto-level function.
Thanks!

That's not the ignitor but the bulb connector. All you need to get is a hella gen 3 ballast to replace your ballast and a new bulb (Philips 85122+). Your auto leveling will not be affected. However I have to say Ive never seen any oem ballasts that did this before.

CLK w209 OEM Xenon Replacement
Hi,
Just recently I discovered that my bulb connector melted. I went to the mercedes dealership in my city to get a replacement. They said they've never seen it before and that it is aftermarket. They suggested I buy an entire Xenon Housing for $1500.
So that is out of my budget. I decided to use the cheaper alternative of buying an hid kit.
How would I replace the factory xenon's with an hid kit? Pictures would be appreciated. Also would there be any errors with the hid kit? Do I need to bring the car to mercedes so they can program it? and how much would that cost?
Thanks!

Post a picture of the melted part.
It's very likely that you can buy another socket and splice it in. The reason the dealer quoted you a price for the entire housing is because that's the smallest sub-assembly they sell.

I'd get a ballast adapter from The Retrofit Source and splice that in where the old one was. About $15 plus shipping.

Yup it looks the same. I just cut them and stripped the insulation. put a heat shrink tube and twisted the wires together. Soldered the wires then heated the shrink tube. Its hard to recall which wire i put with which on the igniter. I took a wild guess, not sure if I was lucky or not.

So basically you removed the burned connector and just replaced it with the new one using the same wires.
You did not have to do remove the headlight and open it up?
thanks for the info man.
What i think caused my problem was some lights about. Dyno gave me 6000K from HIDextra and than i tried some 8000KK from ebay and the second day i ran into this problem.
I put Dynos lights back on and no problem even with the burned connector

They actually sent me the whole unit, ballast and connector (not just the connectors pictured). And that then uses the same plug coming out of the stock ballast. Ballast fit right back into the headlight cap. I didnt want to splice, and didnt have to. They knew thier stuff there and sent exactly what I needed.
