Brakes

How often do you guys change your brakes?
I changed my brakes back in march 2008 and 30,000 miles later my front breaks are squeaking so bad. The dealership gave me a quote of 1800 + tax for new front rotors, pads, and sensors.
Should I just go ahead with that or would an upgrade on my brakes be a better idea?

wow, i think you can get front rotors/pads/sensors for less than $500 in parts (best to check parts.com or a similar website for OEM parts) and approx 2 hours of labor. If you know what you're doing, you can replace the pads in under one hour for both sides and the rotors/sensors only take a maximum of 5 minutes each.

Brakes are purely driver specific. I can go 50K, or I can go a couple of track days. It all depends on how I drive.

The rotors are the most expensive parts and they should be mic’d. That’s when someone takes a micrometer and measures the rotor thickness.

Rotors have a "minimum thickness while servicing" spec. If they are above that, slap in a new set of pads and sensors, and you're done. Many rotors last two sets of pads (mine included).

Brake spec for a W208 are here. The next time I have the WIS open and remember, I'll add the W209 spec as well.

Yea I didn't really feel the price it was just too much even if it was including labor

Thanks I'll get someone to check the thickness for me and see if they really need to be changed or not because as you said I can go through two sets of pads without changing them and I recall changing everything together two years ago and never changed any pads since then.

I highly recommend Hawk perf ceramic pads. Hardly any dust and so far put almost 20k miles on front pads. Still have about 80% pad left. Too bad they dont make them for the C63.
