CLK55 from the UK (London)

Have had the car for a few months - I'm from the UK near London - not sure if there are too many from the UK on here??

Fantastic car and you guys know much more about them than most sites in Europe.

Here is a pretty poor picture taken at night CLK55AMG M/Y 2000 - I will post some better pictures when that little volcano in Iceland stops dropping crud on us!

Welcome John. Not in the UK but the company I work for is. Sunbury-on-Thames!

Mine has the superchips (UK) tune and was well worth the money.
Also a few more mods that really made it come alive. Renntech Airbox, Kleemann headers, high flow cats, Quaife LSD, Euro springs and stainless brake lines.

I'm fighting vibrations at the present so when those little problems are sorted my CLK will be perfect.

Good luck with the ash ;-) I know all about that stuff when we had an eruption back in 1980.

Nice seats! Love the two tone white inserts on black. I always get the "oh wow" when they step inside my car.

For the interior these cars, they do need a modern double-din GPS radio. If your into that, cleans up the interior.

Is your vibration issue the dreaded "shimmy"?

I cured mine...turned out it was lca bushings

Don't know, what and where are the "alcatraz bushings".
Feels like a bearing but I replaced the drive shaft and diff.

Sorry about that.....posting from a Droid. The auto correct changed "lca" to Alcatraz LOL

The lower control arm bushings on my 55 were shot in less than 30k miles. I replaced the stock bushings with polyurethane. Eliminated the shimmy I had from 50-65 MPH.

EBay. The bushings for the w202s fit our cars. Also Google LPD Auto (Duarte, CA)...bought from their eBay store.

Thanks guys - I'll post some pics soon I promise - it has the two tone grey leather interior, parktronic but no Command (not bothered as I use either Tom Tom or find and go on my crapberry) Otherwise the car is standard with ish 80k miles. We have a few people who do tuning items here in the UK - mostly from companies in the States but Brabus etc are represented here - you guys are so lucky with all these companies on your doorstep (well in the States anyway)

Bob - Sunbury on Thames is very near me and very nice peacefull place by the River - guess you've been here before.

Rentech CF airbox - let me look that up - sorry newbie here still learning whats needed to make these things go warp speed rather than just fly.

Read this thread (from 2007, 3 years old). It's kinda long but has pics, etc.

https://mbworld.org/forums/c36-amg-c...hemselves.html

I checked LPD's website and it looks like it's down. I also didn't see any on the ebay pages.

As far as I can tell, it the rear bushing that goes bad - the pics tell the story.

Hope this helps.

Ha ha look who's talking ;-)

My tech does great work.

I was told the C230K was a "pocket rocket" but after I bought one I figured it was no use to try any mods on that one. The CLK did have potential so mod on! Pretty happy with it now as a daily driver. Gets 19mpg back and forth to the shop with a little snap now!

Yep, and the plant sits in front of an old cemetery, dead quiet in that area. Lovely area to walk. I like the Flower Pot because it's close to the plant but there are nicer places. We have had so many changes with the company I don't know if I'll ever get back to the UK for work so it will have to be for pleasure.
