CLK AMG BLACK SERIES (among other German things)
2002 clk55 , yay or nay ?

Sirs , I love the clk55 . I think its perhaps the best looking of all the clk's ( with the possible exception of the black serious 6.3), but thats another story .
I must confess I know very little about this beasty .
I am thinking of getting one to use as a daily car ( including the winter ) here in the UK . I have been offered one at what can only be described as a steal .
The car has been very well looked after ( fsh ) , done 65 thousand miles and will come with a 6 month warranty .
Is this a good idea ? Are there issues I need to think about ( apart from fuel consumption ) ?
Any help is greatly appreciated , thanks in advance
heres a piccy :

Yay, yay, yay I say.

Had mine for almost 12 months. Bought it with 73k miles on it. So far have had the A service done and that's it. Not one ounce of trouble with it whatsoever. I love this thing.

Do yourself a favour and buy it.

Cheers

I bought my first W208 CLK55 back in 2007 with 40k miles, I sold it ONLY for the fact that it does not like the winters here in SLC UT(and no other winters for that matter) I missed it badly. So two months ago I had a chance to pick up another W208 CLK55, now keep in mind that I could have got the newer W209......but IMO it's just not the same as the W208. There's just something about the W208 AMG that made me come back for more, I also have my Nissan Armada 4X4 for winter driving so the snow is not an issue anymore......bottom line YAYYYY

HIGHLY recommended! Wonderful car. It's the perfect mix of luxury, performance, comfort, and class. I started with a 430 and after a year just HAD to get the 55. No regrets. It's reliable, fun, and people still brag on the timeless look.

You can't go wrong...esp at the prices they sell for now.

Depending on the price, I'd say yes, but you may want to have it inspected. Here's a list of things to check.

2002 clk55's are rare around here and a classic in my opinion. If I had the funds and a great excuse I would add one to the garage too

Looks very nice car - depends on price and condition - its up on Tempests site (Near Brighton I think) and for ish £10k. Its done 69k so mileage is ok - really depends on condition - don't forget our ones get a bit of rust round the arches - there are cheaper but it looks good and assume its got Comand etc - try and blag them down a bit but looks good to me - where are you in Surrey mate if you don't mind me asking as I'm in Richmond area??

Jump on it. I haven't looked back. The 208 was more pleasing to my eyes. Pay close attention to anything MarcusF posts. His site got me through a few fixes I needed to do.

It's not a question of yay or nay, it should be how soon can you get behind the wheel! I've never looked back since the day it came into my possesion. In fact, I bought mine sight unseen (from another state)! It had 72000km and I've put another 15000 over the past two years, enjoyed every km of it. The most surprising thing to me is the fuel consumption. It's much, much lower than what I had been expecting. Go for it!!!!

Go for it... Here's the plan...

Get it inspecrted carefully...
Buy it if it all looks good...
Turn off the radio...
Get it cruising on the lonely highway at 50 or 60...
Nail the throttle to the floor...
Take it to 100...
The sound alone will make it all worthwhile...
The smile on your face will never go away!

BTW... We just took our 2002 CLK 55 on a 1200 mile trip...
Average speed 71 MPH... Average of 23 MPG... Car was loaded down with 3 people, 1 small dog and a trunkful of stuff...

The only car I have seen do this any better is our 2005 E55...
Less MPG but a little more comfort.

Simply amazing cars...

Interstate travel is why God created the Mercedes-Benz.

No doubt. I did an 1800 mile round trip for my sister's wedding. 2 people, full trunk, full back seat. I got 23 mpg with cruise at 80. Best trip yet in that car. It just ate up miles, and got stares doing it. The only car that ate me up was an Aston DB9 in Florida that blew my doors off on 75 north.

I-75 North?

I just came down I-75 South to Naples, coming down from the North. We stopped in Atlanta for the night. If I had time I would have looked up Mr. Chappy. He lives there somewhere...

Anyway...

Yes, the 208 CLK is quite a car. I have never warmed up to the 209, unless it's the BS. The PO of my E55 bought one and I saw that one all in black. A killer car, but the front spoiler is so low I can't see how he can take it on the street anywhere in the midwest where he lives.
