2003 clk55 ecxhaust question

Hi guys,

I have a 2003 clk55 and am thinking about removing the 2 secondary cats. Will this trip some sort of CEL. Also, has anyone had issues passing smog in CA with removing the secondary cats.

can't comment on the CA emission laws and on the w208's deleting the secondary cats are safe. as for your car, just look to see if there are o2 sensors after them if so, dont touch them and if not you are fine.

NO 02 sensors on the second cats but not sure about the CA Law. I took the second cats out and replace with two glass packs in place then straight pipes all the way to the quad tips.

They are not cats just resonators.

They are cats for sure...and the o2 sensors are in the bigger cats closer to the exhaust mani.

i wouldn't bother replacing with resonators, just have them gutted(keep emissions guys happy).

mine has 2 cats, 2 more cats, large resonator, muffler. i watched the guy gut them so im pretty sure they are secondary cats on mine anyway.

So what did you get by gutting the secondary cats?

drone?
sound?
sniffer test???

Just curious bout the pros cons. Not concerned bout the performance.. that should be a given improvement.

i can't recommend this to everyone depending on state laws but i gutted all 4. i got sound and hp. the sound was okay but the resonator needs to be changed. im not worried about it atm bc in time im redoing the whole catback system.
