01 CLK55 Snow tire and Wheel Questions!!!! PLEASE READ!!!
I have searched all over this forum and googled to death the subject of correct wheel size and snow tires for my 01 clk55. it currently runs 18" staggered monoblock wheels that were on it when I bought the car they are 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear (probably from an E55), the manual for these cars calls for same size 17" snow tires all around 225/45/17. I have no problem purchasing a set of wheels that will use this size all around, my question is the car originally came with staggered 17' wheels, 225/45-17 (Front) and 245/40-17 (Rear) so can I run this same size tire on factory staggered monoblock wheels or do I need staggered tires and wheels for an 01 clk55 and do i have to run staggered snow tire sizes. PLEASE someone answer this question. Again does the car need staggered wheels or will CLK430 same size wheels fit this car? or can same size tires fit on a staggered set of rims? I do not think they will but someone has to have figured out how to drive this car in the winter. BTW I live in Mass and snow is just around the corner.

You don't have to run staggered wheels, you could buy a set of 17's (or 18's for that matter) and mount 225/45-17's (or 225/40-18's) all around given that they are the same width as the factory front wheel. If you want to use your current staggered wheels, then yes, you'll need to stagger your tire sizes to fit the rims properly.

Make this simple, do you want to buy a set of 17's for the winter or use the 18's you have?

You can do that. Buy a set of 17's that are the same wdith and offset (matching tire)s as the front wheel/tires from the factory - you can check with MB service to make sure this info is correct, it is.
A lot of MB's come with the same size wheels and tires all around with staggered being an option.

4 17/7.5 w209 double spoke wheels, 35mm offset and 225/45 r17 Nexen Snow Tires. total package will run around $1000.00 after all is said and done.
