2006 CLK55 AMG Cabriolet
New CLK55 AMG owner
I stepped up from my 2003 C230 Kompressor and got a beautiful Black 2006 CLK55 AMG Cabriolet. I love the car and posted a pic from the shop in the picture thread. I was wondering what would be the first thing you guys would do to the car. I am making an appointment to put limo tint in the back and the darkest legal tint for New Jersey in the front. I do want to make the car faster and am all for making it better looking. I thought about possibly putting a super charger in. Do you guys have any suggestions? I am willing to admit I know basically nothing about cars/price of things that can be done, but just appreciate a fast and great look of the car.
I will be around often and post pictures and let you guys know anything I do to the car. Every bit of help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

supercharger would be about $16k last time I was quoted. I'd say add a little NOS if you must, but the car is plenty fun the way it is. If you were into speed you wouldn't have bought a convertible anyways ;-)
enjoy your tourqey V8!

Thanks chappy and howie. I have an appointment for windows tinted this sunday so look forward to that.
Good point Howie, I was unaware it was that costly. Likely, won't add NOS, but would love to add some HP to the car to give it some extra kick.
I love the convertible for cruising and got it right at the perfect time for the nice weather. Also the V8 sounds so amazing on the car.

yeah stuff like that is not a simple bolt on with MB like it is with a Mustang or something...it gets pricey. Change your intake to K&N filters, add a full exhaust, and depending on your mileage, maybe change the spark plugs and wires and you'll feel a difference. These cars are fun as hell to drive, enjoy it.

Yeah, I know MB is very expensive with just about anything.
I am at 48k miles. (was thinking of buying a warrenty)
I get my car back this afternoon after work. I went limo tint for the backs and a lighter tint for the fronts (dumb nj laws).
The K&N airfilters is 100% my next thing to do, likely will buy them from a nearby autozone on the way home today.

Think about how a cop feels when he has to approach a car with very dark tinted front windows (especially at night). Too many law enforcement officers have lost their lives in this scenario. Would you like to do this?
I have a close friend that was shot through a closed window. His vest kept his kids from being fatherless.

Yes it is dumb for NJ to have different tint regulations for the front and the back AND every state is different with NJ having to have the lightest front window tint in the country.
I understand where you are coming from as I have relatives who are police officers. However, would I like to do this? No, that is why I didn't go into the police force. They risk their lives every day and I just think it is a dumb NJ law like I said because it differs greatly across the country. It should be one set of rules for this for everyone not a state by state basis.
Also there are many benefits to tinting windows such as, avoid overheating inside, protect skin from UV rays, tinting helps shattered glass hold together, reduces glare to help drive safely, prevent cracking and fading, and not to mention is looks better.
Lastly, coming into a thread I started for advice on my automobile to insult me for my opinion is very childish and unappreciated. Everyone who does have input I greatly appreciate it and look forward to getting back on topic and talking about such a great car.

Dumb NJ laws? Use your head for something besides a hat rack.

Quick update:
I got my car back witht he windows tinted, looks great and luckily keeps my seats cool while it sits out during work.
I bought the K&N air filters from AutoZone, they arrive tomorrow.
I am thinking of doing the quad exhaust as my next project. Also had thoughts of suicide
doors but some people think it would look terrible on the car because it's a classy ride.
I will get some pics up asap.

I think we can all agree, dont do anything to the doors. It wouldnt look too nice to see you get out a nice car and to see the doors get stuck while you are opening and closing them. It also hurts the resale of your vehicle. If you are looking for exterior mods look in the clk w209 section, more members post there

Thanks for the opinion, yeah I likely won't be adding the suicide doors.
Quad exhaust is still an option as I really like the way it looks. Wouldn't hurt the re-sale value one day down the road.
So far I have added tinted windows, k&n and amg license plate frames. Anything else would you guys recommend?
Also my front right headlight went out so unfortunately have to replace that now. Would you guys also recommend a warrenty? No major problems and I am about to hit 50k miles.

honestly I'm constantly replacing and repairing things so I would say a warranty can't hurt, esp with a convertible. I would just make sure and get the right type of warranty that covers "everything except..." instead of "only covers _____"
