Betrezra, I'm headed out to see Cory one of these days to have him install a blower and long tubes.
Quick question, what type of CAI do you have? Is that a Kleemann CAI or someone else's? I was thinking of going with FabTech - what's your opinion? Thanks!

The intake tubes are later model clk550. I doubt they help much.
Bulk benz had the best setup.
Btw.... Before you mod your clk.... Consider I'll be selling my car in the next year for a 996turbo.
I'll cut someone a heck of a deal. I know I will never get my money back. On mods. But this could save the $$$& if you want something similar.
Cheers.

The air box set up comes with the kleemann kit. I believe essentially the e55k parts.

Wonderful photos of the journey,
Sad to read you want to part with such beauty and fun. The car was built with a special purpose and you have enlightened it in many positive ways.
Why not park the 996 next to the CLK and have the best of both. besides 996 are not good daily traffic commuters.
sob, Gator

Gator... You are prob right. 996t not best daily d. I really need to put clk in storage after I get 996tt...... Drive p car for a few months then decide. I've only spent 20 mins in pager seat of 996 tt while salesman hooned around. I was impressed.
Nach... I get the feeling if I sell my clk I'll regret it. It's perfect to me. I'm just starting to get the bug for my next endeavor.... And you can't keep them all.

This link is about a first drive in the Porsche 911 GT-3 It kind of reminds me of when I drove my CLK55 home for the first time with bald rear tires and other small hiccups.

I have raced with the local Porsche club and the GT-3 was a club favorite. Most of these cars are not daily drivers but weekend warriors.
Gator
They are trailering up to the panhandle now for a sanctioned RR event, I am welcome but need to keep working.

Out Of Control!!
If you decide to sell your car let me know. I can't turn down a heck of a deal lol.
In terms of 996TT they are great cars. I think it would be a great DD. Do some 28's and make 600awhp and still be perfectly tame when you want it to be. Plus it's AWD

Gator..... thx for sharing the vid link...... that guys laugh is what I'm hoping to replicate
BB.... of course I'll hit you up if/when I sell. I'd love to see what you can make this car run in the 1/4 mile with your skillz and tenacity. Break the fastest w209 record? WHat are 28's? is that a tune or tune and turbo upgrade? ... I know the 996 really responds to bolt-ons........ and can be crazy FAST>
I'm on the hunt for a white, 2001-2005 6spd black int 996TT..... driven by the little old lady to/from church

Awesome thanks. I learned my lesson from my W208. Not gonna try to go very fast in any mercedes again lol. The CLK BS is considered a W209 right? No way I would invest the kind of money required to beat jrcart. I miss my Kleemann setup and yours is already done! Great daily. I'd run it at the track to get an idea of 1/4 mile times but I won't be chasing records. Too much $$$. I was adding it up the other day and stopped at $20k because I didn't want to know the final number!

A steal considering whats invested. Have you driven a 996T yet? You never know, you may not like it.
What wheels do you have on right now? Did you try any other setups?
Really been thinking the CL65 wheels.

Shame you're selling though. I would definitely keep the car. The cash value doesn't really justify all the work that went into it.

If I can't get 25k, I'll just drive it for another 50k miles.
I might just buy a p car in addition to this.
Car will be for sale for a short while then, I'll just keep her
Should be hitting the drag strip Friday. Nice cool air here in Houston,

There are a lot of different angles to approach here.
If you are a seasoned bracket racer, it comes as second nature.
All racing brings on some form of excitement, anxiety, power and sense of accomplishment when completed. For me I get all the above plus the adrenalin rush when the fun begins.
Controllable adrenaline makes for an incredible experience. You will get ignored from the locals with the star but the performance makes them cheer in the end.
For the first run do all the above but leave the ESP on until you feel the car and track, carefully watch others for traction problems and reset the transmission or just disconnect the battery. (tranny will dork up when you need it)
Anything not bolted down will have to come out, you might need a hard hat pending the class entered.
It is more fun and satisfying than leaving a parking lot full of toyotas and hondas at the red light.
You will be a nervous wreck but after the 2nd or 3rd run you will not want to leave.
Cheers, Gator

Thx Gator..... i've got some seat time drag racing my old 5.0 mustangs back in the day....... 347 strokers, centri blowers, n/a bolt on cars..... 5 spd, autos with stalls. I agree the adrenalin pumps no matter how much you race.
I really don't want to just blow the radials away..... but we'll see.
I know the E55 guys are laying down some fantastic 60' on street tires...... must be some really good track prep.
I really have no idea what this car will run....... so time to find out.

Are you just going for a test and tune night? I usually put my car in dyno mode so the stability control wouldn't try and intervene. You'll need a helmet, I'm sure. My car ran a 12.2 with crappy track prep so you should definitely do better than that.

Track
Well I'm far from 11's lol.
It was pretty warm and humid but track prep was great. 80deg 51% hum. Car was still pretty hear soaked from 1.5 hr drive. The 2nd time was hot lapped. 1500da
1st run I eased into it not knowing track prep and hu with new hancooks v12 radials 12.7 @ 112
2.268 60'
2nd run I got into it more aggressively. 12.58 @ 112.5
2.109 60'
This was with 1/2 tank gas ESP off. Perhaps better weather and dyno mode might improve things.
Nothing broke, it runs mid 12's in street trim.
