2004 CLK55 Kleemann Build
I bought a 2 part caliper paint kit, so I'll repaint red, and add on some AMG logos to match the car.
Ordered the face-list 2007 clk63 lower front bumper/grills/fogs..... $1900 delivered.... but I suspect I'll need a few more bit's mounting hardware. Fogs got here last night.....
also plan to go with a coil over kit for a proper drop.
More to come.
I noticed an elec burning smell on way to work, and def on way home.... I thought..."man does Houston smell bad"........
I got the triangle visit workshop intermittantly..... for battery while stuck in 59 traffic..... hooked up my trusty dash-daq while rolling in stop-go....... noticed voltage fluctuating up/down.....
So immediatly power down all extras..... no ac, no radar det, no stereo......
then just cruise home holding my breath as I watch the car run the voltage down from 12.91/13.01 volts down to 11.44 volts as roll into my drive 15 miles later......
then pop the hood to see what's what.......
and POOF!.... .alt goes up in smoke..
1st pic trying to photo the smoke.... 2nd pic.... infra red thermometer.... pretty damn hot ALT!!!

I'll probably just do all of this at the same time since I'm accumulating projects:
1. Pull pre-face-lift bumper.
2. Install new h/e.
3. Change alt.
4. Black-out headlights..... stealing from kev.
5. Test fit face-lift bumper.
6. BBK.
7. HR springs
8. Koni's
9. HR sways.
Pulled Front Clip - Not a bad job at all.
Pulled headlights - Plan to take apart for black-out job.
Pulled rad shroud, fan. - Noticed I have a 7/29/03 Valeo. It has crimped ends.... so I suppose as long as it's all apart, I'll get a new radiator.
Pulled my wind washer reservoir, it has always leaked.... the top cap was cracked.
Pulled front Sway bar.
Was able to remove the stock Alternator which locked up on me on the way home friday. I was able to pull the alternator out the front of the engine compartment after pulling the fan and the front small water pump hose. Alt is locked up .... suspect bearings went bad. Only 44K miles (!!$!!).
Noticed my kleemann H/E is pretty rusty on the bottom. I'll see what a new one cost's from KLEE USA this week.
Time to order parts:
New Radiator.
New Alternator.
Wash fluid reservoir cap.
New Kleemann H/E.
I'll need a little help with these little parts for some P/N's if you guys can help:... see pics below.

Klee h/e all rusty..... going to order a new one.

Stock valeo rad with crimped ends.... I understand this is a problem part.

Need to order some of these....

Can anyone help me with a p/n on these little clips... they snap into the top rad support holding the plastic shroud in place.

I managed to break the connector plastic clip that holds this plug into the Sway bar sensor. Might need help locating a p/n for the little black clip that goes over the plug.
The numbers from the little black plastic connector lock: PBt GF15, 968477-3A

Install new Alternator - verify elec system OK after the alt locked up.
Install H&R Front Sway Bar.
Install new Radiator.
Install new wind washer res cap
Install new Klee h/e.
Start up make sure all good before go on.
Next steps:
Change valve cover gaskets. Might p/u some power coated v covers. Saw a set on here for cheap last month.
Test fit face lift front bumper.
Now fun mods:
Install koni's, springs, and BBK.
Have new bumper sprayed at paint shop. I'll install here at my shop when it's ready.

WOW there are some awesome battles going on at the top. LOL
It rained for about a week straight in Florida last month. I work @ night and use every amp possible to get there. The battery check came into view on the instrument cluster one night during the rain and the car started getting funky. I shut down 3 stereo amps and reduced to driving lights. defrost for emergency.
Cranked up the next morning and all is well. I suppose the alternator got wet.
All the covers are missing on mine so this is to be expected.
Check your car for factory recalls My alternator was up-dated in 2005/6. The up-date might include a new regulator/brush assembly and harness for free.
That car is gonna be sharp,
Cheers, Gator

I also decided to r/r my trans while my car is down.... to replace the weeping rear main seal. I'll prob do the flex plats on the DS as well.
I don't mind working on this project with another daily driver.
Time to order some parts:
New Bigger aftermarket h/e.
Catch tank for blower cooling system so I can seperate the systems.
These cars are so well built.... they are actually EASIER to work on than the domestics I've played with in the past.
Next steps:
* sand the rotora calipers, apply red caliper paint, and aftermarket AMG labels.
* clean up the rotors.
* Install new alternator,
* Install new radiator,
* Remove exhaust,
* Remove trans,
* Install long tubes.
* Change rear main seal.....
* Decide on if I really want a higher stall convertor..... (prob no).
* Reinstall trans fluid flush, new filter......
* Decide if I really need a new h/e...... the kleeman unit works fine.
* Install koni's, HR's, sways....
* Test fit face lift front clip..... then pull apart and have it painted.
* Black-out the headlap assy's.... reinstall.
Needless to say the garage has been commandeered by the clk for a few weeks.
