I just purchased a 2002 CLK 55 convertible a few months ago. Car is in mint condition. I ran it pretty hard one day and nailed the gas while getting on the interstate, it took off like a rocket than all of a sudden the transmission disengaged and the engine spun like it was in neutral. I pulled over, put it back in drive and off I went with no problem. I did notice i was in the W mode so I am wondering if this was a fail safe on the car since I had the traction control on to prevent me from going to fast. I put it back in the S mode and nailed the gas again with no problems.
Appreciate any input

Wanted to follow and provide an update. I brought my car to a reputable Transmission shop here in Charlotte NC. I had them do a flush and clear the code after inspection. The cost was $199.00! Every MB shop wanted $500.00! He flushed it all new filter and 9 plus quarts of fluid. Car runs great now, even noticed smoother shifting all around. The fluid level was fine and the tech said it was not that dirty so who knows why it went into limp mode. He said it could have been the throttle body sticking or the computer had a signal error etc. I have run it a little hard but so far no limp mode. Just an FYI!
