W 208 help clk 55 amg

I have a 2001 clk 55 amg with 48000 miles I got it with 34000, it's branded. ): I will say this it's never died on me nor left me stuck. I m hopefully picking up another one on Monday not branded.
Now that I ve introduced my self, I have a question well more like a few all based around the same ideas PLEASE HELP... Okay here goes
Does the ac / cooling system affect the way the car drives? (Loss of power) etc.
I ve read that a radiator can take out a transmission?
I m 32 years old and have never even thought about cars until I got my hands on 55 w208 I fell in love.
Yet I m smarter that most shops I ve gone into so I don't trust jus anyone and yet every one I know tells me that the ac/ cooling system will not effect my car but in my gut I feel like because there is something wrong with mine it's killing my car????
Can any one tell me if I'm on to something here?
I turn on defrost or heat a awful smell comes in thru vents yet if I recycle the heater I don't smell it ?
Also a leak in the radiator a slow leak the over flow stayed full all summer as soon as it got cold and rainy the over flow was almost empty and than I fill it than check it the day after only starting the car no driving and it was to full???
I also got the codes from climate control # 7 is @(4)
Plz any insight or information would really put my mind to rest I m driving my self crazy!!!
Thank you so much
For "horrid smell", I would suspect mildew/mold in the AC evaporator. It is hard to conceive of this big motor being noticeably affected by the AC system, unless something like the compressor is getting seized up and putting a bigger load on the motor than normal. Hopefully, it is just an overactive imagination issue.

The AC compressor might be getting tight as well

Your symptoms are not real clear and are for various systems.
Clarity will get you some positive results, These cars are not real 1st time DIY friendly.
There is a post in here about a turbo diesel asking about excessive whistling under acceleration. This is an AMG V8 gasser forum. It is funny but we all do it.
All the Best, Gator
1. Can a bad radiator take out my transmission?
2. Does the AC impact performance?
3. Why does my HVAC fan make so much noise?
4. Why does my car reek with the heater on?
5. What exhaust can I use that won’t sound like a ricer exhaust?
6. What’s the difference between my two CLK55s? One is fast one is slow.
Etc.
This allows people who know specific answers to address them individually. For example:
1. Yes, but that’s more common for 2003 and early 2004 W209 CLKs. A pressure test will tell you for sure. Alternatively, the radiator is 10 years old. It's going to have to be replaced at some point. You may want to do it now.
2. Technically yes. However, it's highly doubtful you would notice AND at wide open throttle the compressor is electronically disengaged.
3. Like Gator said, it sounds like the blower motor regulator. Here's a DIY link.
4. That is commonly caused by the cabin filter or a clogged air intake drain hole.
6. If the two cars are both W208 CLK55s, they are the same. One is broken. The busted one sounds like it has a bad MAF or a bad speed sensor, or the TPS has gone south. The MAF is a normal wear item, but with a salvaged title, it could be anything. Does the broken car perform the same with the ESP turned off? If it runs much better w/o ESP, then I'd guess there's a speed sensor issue.
I hope that helps
