My CLK55 keeps overheating!!
So, recently my 2001 CLK55 AMG (w208) has been continuously overheating!
After replacing the water pump with a brand new unit i took it for another drive...only for it to overheat and spill coolant everywhere! I'm not sure if it being around 100 degrees outside affected it...but what else could be the problem?
The car has about 165k miles if that might play a factor in it.

Could be a stuck thermostat, the radiator core could be clogged/collapsed/failed internally, a defective radiator hose could collapse under vacuum, the filler cap may not hold pressure, the system may have an air pocket - there are probably more. First, when does it overheat? While stopped? At speed?

I would lean towards the car having an air pocket in the cooling system. Start the car with the radiator cap off. As the car idles, squeeze the radiator hoses repeatedly. This will move coolant through the cooling system and release the trapped air pocket. Also running the car on an incline (front end in the air) with the radiator cap off should help release the trapped air. Be ready to shut down the car in case coolant starts to overflow when the engine heats up.
If this does not work, I would replace the thermostat as it is likely stuck closed.

Over time insects and rubbish can collect between the radiator and the condenser and block airflow. What was the condition of your coolant - rusty or clean?
First thing is usually the thermostat followed by collapsed hoses to overheat when running at realistic speeds.

Overheating @ cruise indicates a clogged radiator,
Overheating in traffic is the fan clutch and or electric fans.
Overheating in the driveway cold is a thermostat.
