not a manual conversion, even though i thought about doing it. to be honest, if i can do trans work all over again i would've probably done that. renntech can do it for 15k.

i ended up changing trans to newer 722.643 from s55 and got renntech to tune my TCU to SLR/CLK DTM spec. i still have not finished trans work to get manual mode to work, but car shifts extremely well. i can provide you more details on this if you plan to go this route (also look up kaype in e55 210 site, he is the expert on this!).

at the end of the day, any mods you do should depend on what you plan to do with the car. its an expensive and pretty tiring process. its a never ending process. i actually just dropped my car off in shop to install an external engine oil cooler, and some other little cool stuff to "help" on track. if you are not tracking your car, enjoy it as is stock. its a great daily driver, kind of miss how it used to be but it really comes a live on the track.

We might be converting our w209 CLK55 (2005 model) to a track car. My fiancee had a shoulder injury and the long time with reaching for shifting is aggravating it. Keep it auto with the faux flappy paddles would be ideal. The car is riot anyway. Would be good fun lightened up. Already has wonderful brakes.

The Stock Tune!! Ahhhh but reset all the time get lost in the menagerie of traffic signals. dorked trans shift points and a ECU that gets confused fast.
I liked it merely for the sleeping factor of. when its time it wins. Well thought out tune for a conservative reliable engine.
Racing puts all the game on Adrenalin If it breaks start over. $$$$
Merry Christmas, Gator

It's been a while since I last posted any updates. It's been slow but managed to do the following: front screw type tow hook, air engine oil cooler, light weight spal electric fans (replaced aux and belt driven), and lighter weight battery. Pics to come soon....

I found a set of evosport Pulley on Yahoo Japan last year. You might be lucky give it a try.

How do you like them? It’s supposed to also underdrive power steering, does it feel better?

Yes the power steering is smaller in diameter. You will need new shorter belt. Steering feels the same to me if not a bit quicker/lighter. Both my CLK I got the crank pulley and evosport Pulley done all together, not sure what is helping making more power. You can ask local machine shop make you Pulley set should cost you about the same as brand new ?

Hi Quant,
I see you went with the E55 oil cooler adapter. There is a thermostatic element spring in there that controls the flow.

Did you leave all that inside the adapter? I was going to experiment with different orifice sizes drilled into the flow valve to get better results.

Best Gator

yep, got adapter from DavesMeanE. they needed to be shortened as they were too long for the w208. i left thermostat in there, but plan to keep track of temps to see if i want to make any adjustment or modifications to it.

You might benefit by leaving it be. Racing brings temps up fast, a wholeshot in every corner.
The volume of oil these engines hold is a plus for reliability factors. cooling definitely enhances performance with free HP.
Former race Engines I built were on 100% full time cooling WO thermostat. The Valve might have to stay inside the housing from E55 but blocked in a non moving position somehow to get full time cooling.
Love that car Bro

Gator.

put my car on scales to check weight distribution, with no driver and full tank its around 52/48 and 3299lbs. i think car stock was around 3500+ and 54.5/45.5. i guess makes sense i lost more than 200lbs with weight reductions mods (bucket seats ~100lbs, sunroof delete ~40lbs, lighter battery ~20lbs, wheels/brakes ~4*15=60). would be nice to get it down to 3250 but can't think of any "easy" modifications. probably 15lbs with CF hood but i worry that it will fly off! anyone with experience with this? any suggestions to reduce more weight (other than a diet!) are appreciated

Grab a truck and come down to Maryland. I paid $1200 for a cf hood last year. One quarter sized crack in the resin but otherwise it's like new. $600 for you and includes grill. It will not fly off as long as you make sure it is latched in. I've gone over 150mph without issue.

I took off carpet, door panels, wheel well liners, roof panels, stereo, speakers. And CF hood helps a lot. I been 200km+ with proper hood latch it’s safe. With CF hood you also lose your hydraulic hood support that also helps. I am at 1390kg but I am V6

Quant,

First off the car looks amazing and i look forward to seeing you progress on it.

I figured i would throw this out there in case you have not looked at our products but we manufacture Polyurethane engine and transmission mounts for your car. I think you will like how the mounts make the car feel "tighter" without causing alot of vibration.

Good luck with the car and get a gopro in there so we can see her on the track.

Agreed when in full race trim one should get the best available short of chaining the engine down.
These mounts are on my to do list. Is there any weight shaving when using the custom mounts? Reliability is evident. Tourqe should be a constant value as well.
I have 2 W208 55 and both have been through motor mount service expected again. In the long run while it is available hard to beat.
Quant only competition is Chase Elliot now. haha

Well to be honest the mounts as a pair will only save you 0.67 lbs, so not a huge weight savings haha. The mounts are hard to describe over the internet. They only add a very slight vibration (un-noticeable to most) but they make the car feel more solid if that makes sence. It truly is a hard feeling to describe.

I think most people are hesitant to try them as they think all poly engine mounts behave the same. This could not be any further from the truth. There are many variables that make up an engines NVH levels not limited to durometer. Durometer is only one variable but many think it is the only variable.

Let us know if you have any questions and feel free to call as well. -Josh

ECE makes some killer billet/poly engine and trans mounts that lower the height of the engine as well as being fully serviceable. Full track cars are running them too since there are different stiffness available.

Quant I still have that CF hood and a CF driveshaft if you want to make the trip down 👍
