How to remove your W209 rear seats. Or "My CLK55 AMG Superleggera" haha

I have something coming up that I need some extra space in the rear of my car for. I'm also worried about the wheels rubbing under the extra weight so I pulled out my rear seats for this trip.

I was searching for this info and found a bunch of unanswered threads so I figured I would do a write-up

Total time about 45 mins, I was being careful.
Pics were taken after the fact so I highlighted where the nuts/attachments would have been.

First you take the lowers out. Front hinge is hidden behind plastic clip that pops off. I think these were all 10mm

Fold the seat towards the front, the straps are now all that holds it in. Pull the carpet up from the front, there are 2 more 10mm nuts holding the straps down

Do for both sides, seat lower half comes out.

Remove foam 'bar' padding thing.
There are 3 clips that hold it in. I worked it out by spinning/pulling the top towards me. You also have to pull the seatbelt clasps out of the way.

Remove metal child seat safety restraint thing. This is a 14mm (I think?) nut on one side and a t30 (I think?) torx bolt on the other.

I don't think I needed to remove this on the drivers-side. But on the passenger side it was covering up the nuts for the next step.

Each seat back has a bracket at the 60/40 split

Remove the lower bolts.
I had to go through the trunk and pull the carpet/plastic piece that covers the rear electronics. It is held in by 2 torx bolts that go through the D-ring tie-downs.

The nuts are under that lip, sorry I don't have a better pic.

With all of that out comes the FUN part. Fighting the seats off their hinge posts.
The seats should flop around now if you fold them forward. This took a lot of wiggling and pulling to get them unseated from the silver posts on each side of the car.
I did the small side first. With the other seat folded down I pulled the unbolted bracket free and worked it up and over the larger seat till it popped free.
One last piece holding the seat in was this tube. I believe it controls the button on the dash for popping the rear head rests down. Working a screw driver around the edges popped it free

With the seats out my car only weighs about 5,700lbs now
13"x 34" opening

The seats probably weigh a good 60-80lbs total with everything out

Lol, wow totally forgot about this thread.

No errors at all.

I think total is was about 80lbs for both rear seats.
I took them out for a track day and again for some extra room during a long road trip I was carrying a lot of cargo.

You don't list the year of car. If you have first aid kit behind the rear seat, remove it. You can reach your arm in and pull on one of the cables that releases the seat. After you gain access, NEVER slam the seat closed. Leave the red tab showing...the trunk will soon or later be a problem again. BTW, why no access to trunk? If it's that you can't get key to work, search these forums and check out how to lub the key to open it. If you caught something in the latch, your only way in is through the back seats.
