What shade of tint?
I'm getting ready to have my windows tinted on the CLK55 (metallic sides, non-metallic rear) and am trying to decide what shade of tint I shoud put on.
Legally, the darkest we can go in Georgia is 32%.
I'm debating between 35% and 50%. Is there an offering between these two shades?

IMO 50% tints are basically useless; if its between 50 and 35, go for 35's handsdown, but if you are willing to risk it, go with 20% all around, I think that would look best... GL

I saw recently where "Holson" had put 50% on his black E420. I thought they looked nice in the pics.

me personally, i would not worry to much about tint ticketing. I havent known anyone to get pulled/ticketed for tint and most everyone i know of got the 5% all around by the same person in my area. Most police dont worry about tint, especially with these cars (IMO). But you may not want to go real dark. In this case...this really doesnt matter.

the only way i can think of getting something darker than 50 but lighter than 35 is to double the 50 paper on each window. I dont know how dark that will end up being though. It might end up being darker than 35 but less than 20. Which in this case is not what you want. Maybe someone else knows better.

I looked at a tint shop this afternoon.....anything darker than 35% will be too dark, IMO.....plus may attract unwanted attention
I'll sleep a night or two on it, then decide between the 35% and 50%.
Now........on to the next accessory!

Out Of Control!!
My little brother has 20% all around (including windshield) on his M coupe and looks REALLY good, I also had 20% on my 300E and it looked good as well. 35% is too light IMO because you can pretty much see right thorugh it. I am going to get 20% all around on my clk.

First of all, cops have gotten really lazy about tints. So, dont worry about darkness, if dark is the way you want to go. My CLK55 is Obsidian Black, and they recommended I go 35% all around to maintain a classy look. But, I have fallen in love with the Natural Blue Tinting on the 55's, so im staying put for now...

State Supreme Court Rejects Tinted Window Ban
Officials Say Darkened Windows Pose Hazards
POSTED: 11:25 am EDT June 7, 2004
ATLANTA -- The Georgia Supreme Court has tossed out a state law making it illegal for motorists to have heavily tinted windows on their cars.
In an opinion released Monday, the court indicated its problem wasn't so much the idea behind the law but the way the law was applied.
The statute affected cars which were registered in Georgia and which were driven by people who resided in the state. Nonresidents weren't affected by the law, which carried misdemeanor penalties.
The court said it saw no valid reason for the Legislature to draw a distinction between residents and nonresidents, and therefore ruled the law invalid.
"It being self-evident that nonresidents can be as dangerous to police officers as residents, we perceive no rational connection between the residence of the driver of a vehicle and the goal of improving law enforcement officer safety during traffic stops," the court held in a unanimous opinion.
A footnote in the ruling cited the laws of several other states whose window-tinting laws "apply to all persons without regard to residence."
The law made it illegal to apply material to car windows which reduced light transmission to less than 32 percent or which increased light reflectance to more than 20 percent. Tinting applied by a manufacturer prior to delivery was not affected.
The law was challenged by Jessica Ciak, who was stopped in Cobb County by an officer who suspected her windows were tinted beyond the limits of the law.
Her attorneys challenged the law's constitutionality before a trial judge but lost a motion to have it invalidated. The Supreme Court appeal followed.
Cobb County Solicitor General Barry Morgan, whose office prosecuted the case, said the decision exposes law enforcement officers to a potential hazard until the Legislature can meet again and decide whether the law can be fixed.
"A law enforcement officer who's making an approach to a car never knows what he's going to meet," said Morgan, adding that heavily tinted windows simply increase the risk.

Perhaps? They'll probably move quickly to just change the wording of the law and keep it the same.
BTW, that shop up is Roswell quoted me $309 to do my car. I know of a guy who specializes in Mercedes-Benz and can do over $100 less.
